Devolver Digital–published Quarantine Zone: The Last Check, developed by Brigada Games, has surpassed 1.3 million wishlists on Steam and is set to launch on January 12 for PC via Steam officially.
Originally scheduled for release in November 2025, the game was delayed to allow additional development time after incorporating extensive tester feedback aimed at improving overall quality and balance.
Strong Momentum Ahead of Launch
Since its initial reveal in May, Quarantine Zone: The Last Check has rapidly gained traction, amassing nearly 2 million demo players worldwide ahead of release. The demo currently holds a “Very Positive” rating on Steam (89% positive reviews) and was featured among the Top 50 Most-Played Demos during Steam Next Fest this past October.
For a debut title from Brigada Games, these figures signal unusually strong pre-launch momentum and growing anticipation within the simulation and survival genre communities.
A Zombie Apocalypse Through Bureaucracy
Quarantine Zone: The Last Check is an immersive administrative simulation set in a zombie apocalypse, often described as a “zombie version of Papers, Please.”
Players take on the role of a government checkpoint officer stationed at the frontline of a quarantined zone. Each day, survivors arrive seeking entry into a protected settlement, and the player must determine whether they are infected, healthy, or suspicious.
Using manuals, visual inspection, and evolving tools, players decide whether to:
- Admit survivors into residential zones
- Quarantine them for further observation
- Or, in extreme cases, execute them immediately
Each decision directly affects resource availability, base stability, and moral consequences.
Expanded Systems in the Full Release
The full launch version introduces several new systems not available in the demo, including:
- Portable X-ray scanners
- Laboratory analysis mechanics
- Zombie capture and management systems
- A revamped base management interface
These additions significantly expand both the strategic depth and operational complexity of the game, transforming it from a checkpoint simulator into a broader survival management experience.
More Than Paperwork: Strategy, Defense, and Moral Choice
Beyond document inspection, Quarantine Zone blends resource management, base defense, and ethical dilemmas into its core gameplay loop. The tension of administrative decision-making is layered with the existential pressure of a collapsing world, forcing players to weigh humanity against survival.
By combining the psychological intensity of Papers, Please with the bleak atmosphere of zombie survival narratives reminiscent of The Last of Us, the game offers a uniquely heavy and thought-provoking experience.
A Promising Debut for Brigada Games
Although Quarantine Zone: The Last Check marks Brigada Games’ first commercial release, its demo alone has already been played by over 1.8 million users, establishing early credibility among players.
With Devolver Digital’s publishing support and strong community engagement ahead of launch, the title is poised to become one of the most notable indie releases in early 2026.
