    2024 Global Indie Game Development Competition (GIGDC 2024) Awards Ceremony Held, 20 Award-Winning Works Selected

    The, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, hosted by the Korea Creative Content Agency, and organized by the Korea Game Developers Association, accepted applications for 11 days from June 24 to July 4, 2024, and announced the winners of 20 works on August 16, 2024.

    The awards ceremony held at Yeoksam Amores on Friday, November 8th was graced by the presence of approximately 70 winners from 20 teams, as well as Ha Kang-mi, an official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Kim Nam-geol, the head of the Korea Creative Content Agency.

    In his opening remarks, Shin Yong-hoon, the Korea Game Developers Association president, said, “The entries were unique and full of personality, and it was a time to encounter creative and different imaginations.” He also encouraged the winners, saying, “You will become the main players in making the Korean game industry more special and stronger, and I hope that senior developers will do their best to help you all find a successful path as game developers.”

    In congratulatory remarks, Director Kim Nam-geol of the Korea Creative Content Agency said, “The game industry is making a great contribution to publicizing the status of K-content, and ‘indie games’ are at the foundation of that industry.” He added, “We look forward to a future where the winners selected through the fierce competition of the ⌜Global Indie Game Production Contest⌝ will be together with K-games, and we will not spare our support to activate indie games further.”

    The award categories were primarily divided into the general, university, and middle and high school categories, and the grand prize (Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award), gold prize (Korea Creative Content Agency Award), silver prize, and bronze prize (both Korea Game Developers Association President Awards) were awarded respectively.

    ▲ The five teams selected as the target were ‘KILLA’ by Geomgyudan (general production category), ▲ ‘SPEAR’ by Jukchang (university production category), ▲ ‘Linker’ by Cozyforge (middle and high school production category), ▲ ‘NAMMO’ by Guild Studio (university planning category), ▲ ‘Dice and Choice’ by the Game Production Standing Committee (middle and high school planning category), and were awarded the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award.

    The five teams selected for the gold award were ▲ Etriel Athanasia’s ‘Over The Horizon (General Production Category)’, ▲ BBB’s ‘Monowave (College Production Category)’, ▲ Antipro’s ‘FlowBreaker (Middle and High School Production Category)’, ▲ Doomba Doomba’s ‘Who is Doombaru?’ (College Planning Category)’, and ▲ Lee Su-ho’s team ‘Whitecoat (Middle and High School Planning Category),’ and were presented with the Korea Creative Content Agency Award.

    The five teams that were selected for the Silver Prize were ▲ IM GAME’MASTER PIECE (General Production Category)’, ▲ Kit Kat’s ‘CAT VIEW (College Production Category)’, ▲ Fresher’s ‘Spring Night (Middle and High School Production Category)’, ▲ AGE 777’Surviving the Cube Dungeon (College Planning Category)’, and ▲ Decalcomania’s ‘Adventurer’s General Store (Middle and High School Planning Category)’, and were awarded the Korea Game Developers Association President’s Award.

    The bronze medal was given to five teams : ▲ Reverie ‘Reverie (General Production Category)’, ▲ Double Kimyu ‘Sync Sense (College Production Category)’, ▲ Rookie Developers ‘STUX.NET (Middle and High School Production Category)’, ▲ Quettabyte ‘VirVax (College Planning)’, and ▲ Kourai Studio ‘McKitty’s Sheriff (Middle and High School Planning Category)’, who were presented with the Korea Game Developers Association President’s Award.

    Next, a showcase of last year’s winners was held. LiZard Smoothie CEO Sim Eun-seop, who won the gold prize in the college production category last year, base CEO Min Ji-san, who won the grand prize in the college production category last year, and Ingeon Games CEO Shin In-geon, who won the grand prize in the general production category last year, shared their development stories and experiences since winning last year’s awards and encouraged the 2024 winners, saying, “Let’s wisely solve problems that arise during the game development process and reach the common goal of launching.”
