- Bristol 3-Person Development Team’s Single-Player Mystery Roguelite… “Green Light” from Day One
- 21 million investigations conducted in first week of launch… 2.5 million organized crime cases solved
A mystery game released by a three-person indie developer from Bristol, UK, received an explosive response immediately upon release and has become a hit.
Developer Gilded Rune Games and publisher Yogscast Games officially announced that the new single-player mystery roguelite title ‘Dupery: A Game of Solo Deduction,’ which was officially released on October 15, recouped its entire development cost within just one day of sales beginning .

The popularity of ‘Duperly’ in its first week of release was also proven by overwhelming user play data. During the first week after launch, the total number of investigations conducted in the game reached a staggering 21 million, and the number of suspect arrests recorded was 7.7 million.
The development team drew laughter by revealing that these arrest records included a significant number of “mistaken arrests,” where innocent individuals were apprehended instead of the real culprits. Detailed indicators capturing the traces of intense intellectual battles also caught the eye.
Users have solved 2.5 million cases linked to massive criminal organizations, completing 1.5 million of them perfectly without a single mistake. On the other hand, the cumulative number of in-game deaths during investigations reached 1.75 million, proving the game’s formidable difficulty.
In addition, active gameplay continued throughout the game, with 26.6 million chips consumed at the casino for investigation and 3.2 million units of fuel consumed while moving around the dock area.
Gilded Rune Games and Yogcast Games shared these first-week successes and extended their greetings, saying, “We sincerely thank the users around the world who enjoyed the game, as well as the content creators, media, and playtesters, and the Discord community that has been a strong support since the demo version.”
The new title ‘Duperly’ is a game that perfectly reimagines the tension of the ‘social deduction’ (Mafia-style psychological mystery) genre, which was typically enjoyed by groups in person or online, into a single-player roguelike format.
Players take on the role of a detective tracking a criminal organization that has shaken the city, receiving a case generated randomly (procedurally) in each round. They must then collect the suspects’ alibis and statements, compare them with secured clues, and piece together their cunning lies. The core fun of the game lies in the ‘responsibility that comes with judgment.’
Arresting an innocent citizen based on hasty judgment without confirmation will deal a fatal blow to one’s reputation and standing as a detective. Therefore, it is characterized by a sophisticated system that proves one’s deductions based on solid physical evidence, rather than simply relying on intuition to identify the culprit.
Previously, indie game media outlets covered news about this game last September, introducing it as a promising title being created by three developers, Matt, Luke, and Lydia, in Bristol, UK.
In particular, it was showcased at ‘Tiny Teams,’ a famous Steam event highlighting small development teams, and caught the attention of global gamers early on with its unique demo version.
‘Duperly’, which proved its potential during the pre-release demo phase, recouped its production costs within a day of its official launch and set a record of 21 million investigations within a week, establishing itself as the strongest dark horse in this fall’s indie game market.
Currently, ‘Duperry: A Game of Solo Deduction’ supports both PC (Windows) and Mac environments and is available on the global game platform Steam.
