Nomadic Games, an indie developer based in Bangkok, Thailand, will release the martial arts hack-and-slash action game ‘Burning Sword: Death Sun’ on Steam Early Access on November 17, 2026.
The Early Access version includes five handcrafted stages, five bosses, and two hidden bosses. The currently available free demo will be available until release.
‘Burning Sword: Death Sun’ is a martial arts action game in which Zhang Yixian, the leader of the Demonic Cult who has returned from the brink of death, faces off against martial arts masters one by one for revenge. When the Steam demo was released, it was introduced with a focus on fast combat and roguelike progression elements.
In this announcement, the Early Access release schedule, the scale of initial content, and plans for future updates were revealed.
5 stages and 7 bosses in Early Access
In Early Access, you can play five stages depicting Zhang Yixian’s journey. Each stage is not randomly generated but was designed by the development team, featuring hidden elements and unlockable upgrades scattered throughout. There are five regular bosses and two secret bosses.
The combat system has also provided various growth elements since the initial version. Players can use skills such as ‘Burning Sword,’ which gathers sword power by attacking enemies to unleash flames; ‘Quick Shot,’ a ranged attack that switches ammo types; and ‘Ki Drain,’ which steals Ki from specific enemies. Three skills can be equipped and switched during combos, and defeating a boss unlocks new skill branches.
Talismans obtained from stages enhance the same persistent effect by selecting it three times. A resurrection function can also be unlocked, but this requires sacrificing one equipped skill. Additionally, an infinite battle mode called ‘Arena’ is included for score competition.
New chapters added every 8 weeks until the official release
The developers plan to add a new chapter approximately every eight weeks during the Early Access period. Updates will include new stages, bosses, story progression, skills, and arena content, and development logs will be released alongside each update. Combat adjustments and improvements will continue on a weekly basis.
The full version is planned to consist of a total of 5 chapters and 12 handcrafted stages. Nine major bosses, including Gao Tianqi, two secret bosses, and elite mini-bosses are also in development. The developer plans to reveal a detailed roadmap after the Early Access launch.
“Combat is the core of ‘Burning Sword’,” said Nomadic Games CEO Nook. “We wanted to convey the moment when a fight that initially seemed impossible is finally resolved, and players realize that they have grown.” He added that feedback from numerous players helped refine the combat.
‘Burning Sword: Death Sun’ was built with Unreal Engine 5, and development and publishing were handled by Nomadic Games and Rising Tide Publishing. A free demo is available on Steam, and the game will be released in Early Access on November 17.
