The Korean three-person indie game development team ‘HiddenStageGames’ has released a free demo version of the logging incremental game ‘LumberBoy’ .
‘Lumber Boy’ is an incremental (idle/clicker) game where players use funds earned from cutting, processing, and selling wood to upgrade their equipment and abilities. The core of the game lies in the addictive fun of constantly expanding your own logging scale against a backdrop of a forest rendered in colorful and charming isometric pixel art.
The development team HiddenStageGames has confirmed its participation in Steam Next Fest, which will be held this coming October, and plans to make its debut to global gamers. Development of the full version of ‘Lumberboy’ is being accelerated with the goal of releasing it on PC (Steam) in January 2027 .
Starting with a single axe… Expanding the scale of logging is key
The player starts the game with a single character wielding an axe. They chop down trees to gather logs and earn money by selling processed timber at a sawmill. By using the profits to upgrade the axe and stats, they can chop down more trees faster.
Even hard, rare trees that were difficult to fell at first can be felled in a single fell as they grow. If a production line is equipped with conveyor belts that continuously transport processed timber, the scale of logging also increases significantly.
According to information released by the development team, the main progression takes approximately 3 to 4 hours. There are a total of 12 forests to explore, with three in each of the four regions. Different trees and rewards appear whenever a new region is unlocked. There are over 100 types of trait upgrades that enhance logging power and speed, processing efficiency, and resource acquisition.
Roguelike mode unlocks once you complete the main story. You start from the beginning every time, and your progress is reset if your character is defeated.
The free demo includes 3 forests and 34 trait upgrades.
The estimated playtime for the free demo is approximately 40 minutes to 1 hour. You can experience three forests and 34 types of trait upgrades. Save functionality is supported, but save data from the demo does not carry over to the full version.
The game can be controlled with a keyboard, mouse, and controller, and the development team announced that it can also be played on the Steam Deck. The demo was released first on Steam on September 10, 2026, and is also available for download on STOVE and itch.io.
Colorful dot graphics and an isometric forest
‘Lumberboy’ prominently features eye-catching pixel art with bright and vivid colors. The forests, unfolding from an isometric (quarter-view) perspective, showcase unique environments and diverse tree species for each region, while vibrant animation effects complete the distinctive atmosphere of each location.
The actual Steam store page features tags such as ‘cute,’ ‘comfortable,’ and ‘cozy,’ raising expectations among gamers who prefer a charming, healing atmosphere over fierce competition.
The debut work of the three-person Korean indie team HiddenStageGames
HiddenStageGames is a three-person indie game development team based in South Korea. ‘Lumberboy’ is the team’s debut title, and they are handling both development and publishing themselves. The development team expressed their ambition to consistently create games that are easy to start, fun to learn, and worth returning to.
Demo evaluation and coverage by international media
As of the time of writing, there are 30 user reviews on the Steam demo page, all of which are positive. The 20 reviews registered in the last 30 days are also all positive, so they are marked as ‘Very Positive’.
News of the demo release was also reported by the Japanese gaming media outlet ‘Gamer’. The publication described the game as a pixelated incremental game where players sell processed wood to push their axe and physical abilities to their limits.
‘Lumber Boy,’ which depicts the process of starting with a single axe and suddenly growing into an unmanageable forest, is a work that intuitively conveys the unique thrill of the incremental genre.
You can experience a growth loop of about an hour in advance through a free demo, and it appears that more users will be able to play during Steam Next Fest. The official release date has only been announced as January 2027, and specific dates and pricing will be announced later.
