- Korean 4-person team LemonVelvet releases free demo ahead of Kickstarter campaign on September 10
- A post-apocalyptic otome RPG featuring beautiful but deadly ‘Flower Zombies’
LemonVelvet, a four-person Korean indie game team, has released a free PC demo of their new game ‘ZombiSeed,’ which combines a story-driven female-oriented visual novel with a turn-based card battle RPG, via itch.io.
‘Zombiesed’ begins in a post-apocalyptic world where civilization has collapsed due to an unidentified plant-based zombie virus called ‘Blossom.’ It is characterized by a mystery and character-driven narrative that unfolds based on the unique premise that infected humans transform into beautiful yet deadly ‘Flower Zombies.’
The game is scheduled to launch a Kickstarter campaign on September 10, and the official version is being developed with the goal of a global release on Android and iOS in April 2027.
A teacher who chooses their own name and gender… A survival story with five students
The player becomes a teacher who can freely set their name and gender, and takes charge of ‘Class S’ at the Elite Hunter Academy.
The protagonist, who lost his family early in the outbreak, moves to find a safe shelter with five male students and a fellow teacher and former mercenary, Floyd Owen, while simultaneously tracking down the truth hidden behind the zombie outbreak.
The story unfolds by combining mystery and dark psychological elements with a character-driven narrative. It is characterized by a focus on secrets, conflict, trauma, surrogate families, and relationships that change over time, rather than traditional romance routes or dating simulation formulas.
Most of the characters have their own hidden stories, and players can learn about their pasts and relationships by following the narratives of individual characters such as Lee Seoyoon and Kwon Daham.
A chain battle system that draws and connects 3 cards every turn
Combat proceeds by drawing three cards each turn and connecting them to form a chain . As the chain gets longer, more powerful attacks are triggered, and how you utilize each hunter’s unique skills and card combinations becomes the key strategy of the battle.
Since the synergy between cards varies depending on the team composition, the process of deciding which characters to combine and which cards to utilize is also an important factor.
The game content is broadly divided into two main axes. One is the main story, which tracks down the truth behind the zombie outbreak, and the other is the Card Story, where players learn the individual stories of characters while collecting and awakening cards.
Full Korean voice acting is supported for the card stories, and voice acting is also planned to be added to the main story, focusing on key scenes.
30-Minute Free Demo Released… Kickstarter Campaign Announced for September 10
The PC demo currently available for free on itch.io consists of approximately 30 minutes of content, focusing on the visual novel and story parts.
However, card battles, which are one of the core contents of the full version, cannot be experienced directly in this demo. Instead, it is designed to allow players to first encounter the worldview and key characters, and to check the game’s atmosphere and narrative.
Starting with the release of this demo, developer Lemon Velvet plans to promote the game and launch a Kickstarter campaign starting September 10 to secure full-scale development funds.
The official game is scheduled to expand into a global version following its domestic release, with a target launch date of April 2027 for Android and iOS. The text supports Korean and English.
Overseas media also taking notice… “Unique disaster setting with interesting potential”
As ‘Zombiesed’ has not yet been officially released, user and critic reviews have not yet been compiled. However, interest from overseas gaming media has been growing immediately following the release of the free demo.
British gaming media outlet Pocket Gamer noted the disaster setting of ‘Zombiesed’ and commented, “It is rare to see beautiful flowers starving to this extent.”
GamingOnPhone also introduced it as a title that would appeal even to users unfamiliar with the female-oriented (Joseimuke) genre. Citing its strengths such as the post-apocalyptic setting, character-driven narrative, strategic deck-building combat, Korean voice acting, and detailed character illustrations, they evaluated it as a game with sufficient potential.
However, since the card battle system cannot be directly experienced in the currently released demo, it remains to be seen how the actual gameplay will be evaluated once the combat content is revealed.
‘ZombiSeed’ is a game that combines the character-centric narrative characteristic of the female-oriented genre with the strategic depth of a turn-based card battle RPG. In particular, its unique worldview combining beautiful flowers and zombies, and the way the story unfolds centering on the relationships between the characters, are cited as differentiating elements.
Given that a free demo was released ahead of the Kickstarter campaign coming up this September, future crowdfunding results and the reveal of the card battle system are expected to be important variables in the game’s development direction and official release schedule.
