    KOCCA holds ‘2023 Game Level Up Showcase’, gateway to indie games

    Held at SJ Kunsthalle in Gangnam-gu, Seoul for four days starting December 6th

    The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Yoo In-chon) and the Korea Creative Content Agency (President Cho Hyun-rae, from now on referred to as KOCCA) will hold the ‘2023 Game Level-Up Showcase (GLS 2023)’ in Gangnam-gu, Seoul for four days starting December 6. It was announced that it will be held at SJ Kunsthalle.

    GLS 2023, which celebrated its second anniversary this year, is a KOCCA planning support project to promote excellent Korean indie games. It is an opportunity to showcase and evaluate new indie games in the ▲startup and ▲preliminary business sectors. A total of 50 new games have been prepared, 1.5 times more than the 34 introduced last year, and six types of indie games that participated in this year’s G-STAR are also included.

    Are the participating games ▲Project Relic ▲Salamander enjoying snowboard? ▲Out Breaker ▲Archetype Blue ▲V.E.D.A and 26 startup sectors, including ▲Black Out ▲Goodbyt Seoul-Itaewon ▲VIne ▲spinning yarn, etc. There are 24 species.

    The event program includes ▲game free experience, ▲user evaluation, ▲presentation evaluation, and ▲an excellent game award ceremony. Based on the free experience booths in each category, excellent games will be selected and awarded through ▲game experience by general visitors and experts such as publishers and investors, ▲user evaluation by 100 people, and ▲presentation evaluation by 14 people.

    The Excellent Game Awards Ceremony will be held on the 9th, the last day of the event, and a total of 6 types will be selected from 1st to 3rd place in each category by combining the user evaluation and presentation evaluation results. A total of 95 million won in prize money will be awarded to the selected excellent games.

    Meanwhile, KOCCA provides step-by-step systematic support from the initial start-up stage of K-games to entering overseas markets beyond the domestic market, along with various commercialization programs such as consulting and networking. Representative examples include ▲Game planning start-up support ▲Game planning development support ▲Game content production support ▲Global Game Hub Center operation.

    “The growth of small and medium-sized game companies, such as startups and prospective entrepreneurs, is significant in developing K-games and expanding the market base,” said Kim Seong-jun, head of the Game Division of KOCCA. “We will lead the game industry, which plays an important role in K-content.” “We will spare no effort in nurturing future leaders.”
