Berlin-based indie studio Selkies Interactive has announced that its debut title, Echoes of Mora, will launch in March 2026 for PC and Steam VR. Founded in 2023, Selkies Interactive is a women-led indie team bringing diverse perspectives and emotional storytelling to the forefront of game development.
A Time-Spanning Underwater Narrative Adventure
Echoes of Mora is a story-driven adventure following a young girl named Mora as she searches for her missing brother near a cursed purple lake. Players explore a submerged, abandoned village, uncover hidden objects, and solve environmental puzzles to piece together the mystery behind a devastating catastrophe.
At the heart of the gameplay is a unique mechanic known as “Echoes”—time portals that allow players to revisit pivotal memories. By collecting glowing purple orbs called Fragments and placing them into an Echo, the portal turns gold and opens a path into Mora’s past.
Through these Echoes, players experience the village as it once was—vibrant and alive before disaster struck. They can overhear conversations between villagers, interact with memories, and form a deeper emotional connection with Mora and her world.

Seamless Support for Both VR and PC
One of Echoes of Mora’s standout features is its flexible platform support. The game can be played either on PC using keyboard, mouse, or controller, or in full VR with motion-tracked, arm-based swimming for an immersive underwater experience.
Notably, players can switch freely between VR and PC modes at any time during gameplay. If physical fatigue sets in during VR sessions, the experience can seamlessly transition to traditional controls without interrupting progression—an accessibility-focused design choice rarely seen in VR-supported titles.

Community-Driven Updates and Refined Swimming Mechanics
Following hands-on demos at Gamescom 2025, Selkies Interactive actively incorporated community feedback into development. In response to critiques of the original VR swimming system, the team redesigned the entire movement model.
Rather than requiring precise gesture recognition, the updated system tracks overall player motion and translates it into directional and velocity vectors, resulting in smoother and more intuitive underwater movement.
A recent holiday update added support for six additional languages—German, French, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Ukrainian—along with an optional simplified VR swimming mode to further improve accessibility.

A Promising Indie Project to Watch
Echoes of Mora is being developed as part of the DE:HIVE game incubator program at HTW Berlin and has received regional funding from Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. The project was also nominated for Best Prototype at the 2025 Deutscher Computerspielpreis, underscoring its growing recognition within the European indie scene.
Meike Strippel, co-founder and lead artist at Selkies Interactive, shared:
“Over the past months, we’ve carefully listened to community feedback and refined the demo. It now offers more natural swimming controls and a richer narrative, allowing players to form a deeper emotional bond with Mora’s journey.”
A playable demo is currently available on Steam, with the full release planned for March 2026. For players drawn to atmospheric exploration, underwater settings, and emotionally resonant storytelling, Echoes of Mora is a title well worth watching.
