- The hidden story after ‘Hour of Joy’… A full-scale launch on Steam Early Access
- Up to 8-player cooperative survival game where you escape the Playtime Factory as Smiling Critters
A new title has been unveiled that expands the world of the popular mascot horror franchise ‘Poppy Playtime’.
Developer Mob Entertainment announced that it officially released its new survival horror title , ‘Escape From Playtime: A Smiling Critters Adventure,’ as Early Access on the PC game platform Steam on October 21.
This new title is a cooperative survival horror game where players team up to survive. In addition to solo play, up to eight players can form a team to explore the dark abyss of the ruined Playtime Corporation factory.
Players take on the role of ‘Smiling Critters,’ small and cute toy characters, and must roam throughout the factory to collect various resources necessary for survival and escape, and return safely.
The game’s most significant features are the dynamic environment that changes with every playthrough and the extreme tension. With each playthrough, the internal structures and facility pathways of the factory—such as classrooms, warehouses, and laboratories—change randomly, requiring a new strategy every time.
Here, the bizarre interior of the factory, viewed from the low and limited field of vision (eye level) of a small toy, and the menacing monsters constantly roaming in the darkness targeting the player, maximize the sense of horror.
In addition, the introduction of a ‘Proximity Chat’ system, which allows only nearby colleagues to communicate via voice, has significantly enhanced immersion. Since communication is cut off when colleagues become too far apart, close cooperation and tight teamwork among team members for survival within the perilous factory are expected to be key elements of fun.

The story after ‘Hour of Joy’ and before Chapter 1
The timeline of this game spans from after the events of ‘Hour of Joy’ up to ‘Poppy Playtime: Chapter 1’. As this is a period not covered in detail in previous series, the developers explained that Escape From Playtime is also part of the official Poppy Playtime universe.
The characters the player controls are the Smiling Critters, a toy line that first appeared in ‘Poppy Playtime: Chapter 3’. They explore various parts of the factory under the direction of a mysterious entity called ‘Voice’.
Voice promises freedom and a new home to toys that have proven their loyalty and usefulness. In return, he demands that they enter the factory and retrieve necessary parts and resources. However, it is unknown who Voice is or whether his promises can be trusted. Whether one should trust and follow Voice, whose identity and purpose remain unknown, forms a central axis of the story.
The game begins in a constantly changing section of a factory. Players must decide whether to move together to find and transport necessary resources or to scatter in various directions to explore. It is also up to the players to decide whether to pursue more resources or turn back before the danger increases.
Inside the factory, failed monster creations produced by Playtime Saga roam freely. Rather than fighting them directly, you must avoid threats by solving puzzles, collecting clues, and securing necessary tools. You will also need to respond appropriately to the situation, such as using shelters and detours to divert the monsters’ attention.

A factory viewed from a toy’s perspective, changing structure and close-range voice conversation
One of the features of Escape From Playtime is ‘Mini Mode,’ which utilizes the small size of the Smiling Critters. Players can crawl and jump around the factory, exploring locations seen in the original Poppy Playtime from a completely different perspective.
The structure of the factory is not the same every time. Under the premise that Voice changes the facility’s layout, the environment is procedurally generated, and even familiar Playtime spaces appear differently with each playthrough. Rather than relying on memorizing the same locations and situations repeatedly, it is important to understand and adapt to the ever-changing environment.
In cooperative play, ‘proximity voice chat’ is utilized. While players can exchange information by directly conversing with teammates nearby, their voices can also be a risk factor. The developers explained that even a single careless whisper could ruin a mission. In essence, communication with teammates serves as a device that heightens tension while simultaneously being essential for survival.
You can check your progress and rewards on the ‘Playtime Web Portal,’ which you access via the ‘Perm-A-Lounge’ computer. Here, you can also discover additional hidden secrets related to Playtime.

Expanded from single-player horror to cooperative survival for up to 8 players
Mob Entertainment is an independent entertainment company founded in 2015 by brothers Zach Belanger and Seth Belanger. It gained recognition through the mascot horror series Poppy Playtime , which was first released in 2021, and according to the developer, the series has sold over millions of copies and expanded its reach across multiple platforms.
Recently, the Poppy Playtime IP is being expanded not only through game development but also through original content, publishing, consumer goods, and live experiences.
The Poppy Playtime series has so far focused on episodic single-player horror. In 2022, an asymmetric multiplayer spin-off titled ‘Project: Playtime’ was also released, in which a single player becomes a monster and hunts down survivors.
This time, Escape From Playtime has changed direction once again. Instead of players competing against each other, up to eight players must team up to survive against AI-controlled monsters and the dangers of a factory. It is characterized by combining the horror elements of Poppy’s Playtime with cooperative, exploration, and resource recovery features.

Expanded to a maximum of 8 players based on open beta feedback
The Early Access version features 8 types of Smiling Critters, 4 of which can be expanded as you progress through the game.
The developers gathered user feedback through the open beta conducted prior to launch and expanded the maximum multiplayer player count to eight based on this. Although some media outlets introduced it as a co-op game for up to four players during the pre-release announcement, the Early Access version supports players from one to eight.
Launch celebration benefits have also been prepared. For 30 days after release, players can receive the ‘Founders’ Pack’ for free, which includes eight alternate appearances for Smiling Critters and additional rewards. The game is priced at $9.99 and is discounted by 10% for a limited time to celebrate the launch. Users who own the free ‘Poppy’s Playtime: Chapter 1’ will also receive an additional 10% discount.
Mob Entertainment plans to continuously add new zones, enemies, items, cosmetics, and gameplay features throughout the remainder of 2026 and 2027. The specific Early Access roadmap is subject to change based on community feedback. Currently, the service is available only on PC Steam.
Escape From Playtime has successfully incorporated a new survival formula of ‘8-player cooperative survival’ into its unique, bizarre mascot horror world. In particular, it is intensely stimulating the curiosity of fans who have been following the story by filling in the gaps left by ‘Hour of Joy,’ which were shrouded in mystery in the original game, with the official canon.
The Playtime Inc. factory, having just taken its first steps into Early Access, is preparing to unleash deeper darkness and new monsters. What is the truth behind the mysterious entity ‘Voice’ that hides its true identity?
The eyes of horror gamers worldwide are focused on how far this desperate struggle unfolding in the cruel toy factory will expand the massive, dark fairy tale of ‘Poppy Playtime’.
