- Gather materials by fishing to build a house, and accumulate resources even while away.
- Supports 11 languages including Korean… New title from Tokyo developer BUBBLE GUM
BUBBLE GUM, an indie game developer based in Tokyo, Japan, has officially released the idle building game ‘CELESTAY Craft&Slowlife’ on the global PC platform Steam.
This new title is an emotional reinterpretation of a post-apocalyptic world where civilization has been submerged beneath the sea. Players begin in a small, isolated house above the water, gathering resources through fishing and embarking on a journey toward the sky by expanding the building floor by floor.
Charming pixel art and soothing natural environmental sounds such as waves, wind, and rain enhance the game’s immersion. The developers stated that it will be a game that acts as a so-called “desktop work buddy,” which can be enjoyed with the screen open without burden while performing other tasks .
Gather materials through leisurely fishing and timing fishing.
Fishing takes place in two ways: ‘Leisurely Fishing,’ where you catch fish simply by waiting, and ‘Aimed Fishing,’ where you must time your catch yourself. Leisurely Fishing is suitable for doing other things while the game is running. Aimed Fishing involves consuming fish. You succeed if you stop the moving bobber in a designated area.
If you cast your line into the orange zones that occasionally appear, you increase your chances of catching rare fish. As you venture deeper, the probability of encountering rare fish or treasures from sunken civilizations increases, but the success zones narrow and the number of successful attempts required increases.
Caught fish can be recorded in the encyclopedia, exchanged for building resources or items, or used to purchase goods from wandering merchants. Gathering wood and iron allows you to build facilities such as kitchens or pulley lifts. There are also features to craft hammers, fishing rods, and reels to reduce construction costs or increase fishing efficiency.
Fish and resources accumulate over time even without you constantly controlling the game. When you leave and return, your catch may have increased or materials to build a new floor of your house may have gathered.
As the house rises, new landscapes and stories unfold.
As you build your house higher, the scenery changes. If you pass through the rain clouds and rise above them, the receding sea and constellations come into view. At night, you can find constellations and record them in your field guide, and the surrounding atmosphere changes depending on the time and weather, such as the morning glow, blue sky, evening glow, and rainy days.
In the sea, in addition to fish, you can retrieve photographs, letters, and old records. These items are recorded in a catalog as memories of the sunken world. According to the game’s setting, about 150 years have passed since the world sank into the ocean, and people live by gathering floating resources in the ‘Republic of the Sea’. The process of raising the height of the house leads to a story where you gradually learn the reason why the world sank and why people are yearning for the sky.
The sounds of waves, wind, rain, the creaking of buildings, and record music also play a part in bringing the game’s atmosphere to life. The game focused on conveying the sensation that life continues in the space even when you are not looking at the screen.
BUBBLE GUM, winner of the top prize at the indie game contest
Development and publishing were handled by BUBBLE GUM. According to the Japanese game media outlet AUTOMATON, BUBBLE GUM is a Tokyo-based studio established by Takahiro Furukawa and Akihito Hatanaka, who were former colleagues at a game development company, after they left to start their own business.
BUBBLE GUM is also developing ‘Little Cheese Works,’ a cooperative action game where players become mice and carry cheese with their companions. This title won the Platinum Award, the top prize, at the 1st ‘GYAAR Studio Indie Game Contest’ in 2023.
Separately, the Steam store page also reveals that AI was used for some UI elements.
Wishlist surpasses 17,000 items, broad broadcasting and content production allowed
The developer unveiled the Steam store page in December 2025 and released a demo version in conjunction with Steam Next Fest. In June, they added ‘Shooting Fishing’ and announced that the number of wishlist registrations exceeded 17,000 on June 25.
The game supports interfaces and subtitles in 11 languages, including Korean, but does not provide voice acting. According to the Steam page, the minimum specifications are Windows 10, 2GB of memory, Intel UHD graphics, and 300MB of storage space. On Mac, it supports macOS Sequoia 15.4 and Apple M1, M2, and M3 chips.
Broadcasting and content creation are also permitted. The entire game can be broadcast on platforms such as YouTube and Twitch, with no restrictions on spoilers, pre-registration, or credit attribution. Advertising revenue, sponsorships, the public release of video archives, the creation of clips and shorts, and posting on other social media are also allowed. However, the extraction and modification of game data, as well as copyright infringement, are prohibited.
‘CELESTAY Craft&Slowlife’ is an idle building game where there is absolutely no need to rush. You can watch the screen while fishing, or return after doing other tasks to check that your house is a little closer to the sky than it was yesterday.
Just like the developer’s message that work time and rest time are both part of life, this appears to be a title worth noting for users looking for a game to enjoy leisurely on a desktop.
