Steel, Scraps, and Survival: ‘Machine Mind’ Expands the Crossout Universe on Steam

    By Editorial Team2026년 03월 06일Updated:2026년 03월 08일3 Mins Read
    • The Legacy: A new single-player entry in the shared universe of Crossout and Ex Machina.
    • The Genre: A hybrid of vehicle crafting, base building, and RTS-style automated combat.
    • The Story: A survivor’s consciousness trapped in a “Mind Module” fighting to reconnect with orbital stations.
    • Launch Details: Released March 5, 2026, on Steam for $19.99.

Fans of gritty, diesel-soaked wasteland survival have a new reason to start their engines. Chudo-Yudo Games, an internal studio of the veteran Russian developer Targem Games, has officially launched Machine Mind. This title marks a significant pivot for the franchise, moving away from the multiplayer focus of Crossout to deliver a deep, narrative-driven single-player experience.

A Soul in the Shell: The Plot of Machine Mind

The world of Machine Mind is a graveyard of human ambition. After a mysterious virus and a subsequent nuclear exchange, civilization collapsed, and the few remaining humans fled to orbital stations. On the surface, only the Raiders and machines remain.

You play as the sole survivor of a crashed shuttle—but with a twist. Thanks to an experimental “Mind Module,” your consciousness has been preserved within a metallic frame. To survive, you must scavenge parts, build rovers, and establish a base of operations to restore communication with the stars and uncover the truth behind the cataclysm.

    The Hybrid Gameplay Loop

Machine Mind doesn’t settle for one genre; it seamlessly weaves three distinct systems together:

    FeatureDescription
Modular Vehicle CombatBuild and modify armored vehicles using scavenged parts. Your “car” is your body; if it breaks, you’re done.
Base Building & DefenseEstablish outposts to produce resources. You’ll need to design efficient production lines while fending off waves of Raiders.
Automated RTS SystemsUnlike traditional action games, you can control multiple vehicles. Set up automation for resource gathering and patrol routes to expand your influence.

    Connecting the Post-Apocalyptic Dots

For long-time fans of Targem Games, Machine Mind is a homecoming. It shares DNA with the 2005 cult classic Ex Machina (known in North America as Hard Truck Apocalypse) and the hit MMO Crossout.

While Crossout focused on the chaos of PvP, Machine Mind prioritizes the “systemic” side of the wasteland. It invites players to tinker with physics-based construction and strategic automation in a way that honors the studio’s 20-year history of post-apocalyptic world-building.

    From the Creators of ‘Crossout’

Based in Yekaterinburg, Targem Games has been a pillar of the Eastern European development scene since 2002. With over 20 titles under their belt—including Star Conflict and BlazeRush—the studio has mastered the art of “vehicular mayhem.” Machine Mind represents their latest attempt to refine the single-player survival loop for a modern audience.

“We wanted to create a game where players aren’t just driving; they’re engineering a new future from the scraps of the old world.” — Targem Games Development Team

    Initial Reception

Since its launch on March 5, the game has debuted with a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam. Early adopters are praising the game’s ambitious blend of genres, though some note that the complexity of the RTS automation has a steep learning curve.
