Voxel-Pixel Hybrid Action Adventure ‘World War V: Last Call’ Unveiled by Studio Horang

    By 인디게임닷컴 편집부2025년 11월 17일Updated:2026년 01월 09일4 Mins Read

SEOUL, South Korea — Studio Horang, led by acclaimed webtoon creator Horang—known for viral horror hits such as Ghost of Ok-su Station and Ghost of Bongcheon-dong—has announced its newest title, World War V: Last Call, a voxel-based action adventure game that blends nostalgic pixel art with next-generation dynamic voxel technology.

The game introduces a distinctive visual experience by combining 3D voxel battlefields with 2D pixel expressions, recreating the tactile excitement of classic action games with modern real-time destruction effects using more than 11 million dynamic voxels per scene.

A Unique Visual Identity: Voxel Meets Pixel

World War V: Last Call offers a rare hybrid art direction that merges voxel-rendered environments with crisp pixel artistry. This contrast produces a retro-inspired yet refreshingly modern aesthetic. According to Horang, his long-time affection for classic games inspired him to design a “strange war game where voxels and pixels collide.”

    Story & Gameplay

The narrative follows Lena, a young scientist from the V Empire, who escapes with a classified weapon. Using her textbook as an improvised helmet, Lena embarks on a tearful yet determined mission to thwart the Empire’s ambitions.

As a stage-based action adventure, the game emphasizes environmental destruction. Players can break terrain, uncover hidden items, open shortcuts, and modify the battlefield to gain strategic advantages. Despite its cute visuals, the game boasts challenging difficulty, inventive mechanics, and charmingly eccentric bosses.

    Characters & Storytelling

The world features an ensemble of memorable characters, including the boastful Colonel Phreak and the sadistically charismatic Sophia. Their humorous dialogue and comic timing create a rhythm of tension and laughter throughout the adventure.

Players will experience a world where absurdity and seriousness coexist, supported by crisp combat feedback and tightly choreographed action sequences reminiscent of Horang’s webtoon storytelling style.

    A Creator with Multidisciplinary Strength

While widely recognized as a horror webtoon artist, Horang has long worked across creative fields—as a web developer, tools engineer, and game creator. These diverse skills converge in World War V: Last Call, resulting in a product that harmonizes comedic narrative, polished timing, and sophisticated technical execution.

    Market reaction

A demo is currently available on Steam, and nearly 10,000 users have added it to their wishlists in just over a month. The funding project via Tumblbug exceeded its goal immediately after its release, and funding for a physical package centered around retro goods, such as a floppy disk-shaped USB drive and a mini CRT monitor, is scheduled to run until December 7, 2025.

The latest demonstration was unveiled at Booth D23, Exhibition Hall 1, G-STAR 2025, held at BEXCO, Busan, from November 13 to 16, 2025. The on-site event was designed to allow visitors to experience the game’s world firsthand, including exhibiting actual package goods and revealing a voxel Lena statue that is approximately 1 meter tall.

    Conclusion

World War V: Last Call delivers a striking combination of voxel-pixel hybrid visuals, strategic environmental destruction, and humorous yet tension-filled storytelling. It stands out as a distinctive action-adventure that appeals to retro fans and challenge-seeking players alike.

As a culmination of Horang’s evolution from webtoon creator to multidisciplinary game developer, the title carries strong potential to make a meaningful impact on the Korean indie scene.

The playable demo of World War V: Last Call is now available on Steam.
