    • Game Talent Institute signs business agreement for global talent training exchange with domestic and foreign companies and institutions

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Yoo In-chon) and the Korea Creative Content Agency (Acting President Yoo Hyeon-seok, from now on referred to as KOCCA) completed the operation of an exhibition booth for the graduation works of the 5th class of Game Talent Institute trainees at ‘G-Star 2024’ held at BEXCO in Busan from the 14th to the 17th.

Established in 2018, the Game Talent Institute is a professional educational institution that fosters talents who will lead the Korean game industry. It fosters field-tailored talents through practical education programs and mentoring by industry experts. In particular, it provides various support to help students develop critical skills in the global game market through ▲free tuition ▲, the provision of educational equipment, infrastructure ▲education on game company employment, a startup ▲scholarship system, etc.

◆ eight works of 5th Game Talent Institute students exhibited.. G-Star Indie Awards winners

The booth displayed various genres and styles of graduation works produced in a team project format similar to the game development process of an actual company. A total of 8 works were exhibited: ▲TRAPPER ▲Chronos ▲4Quest ▲VISION PREDATOR ▲K:SANA ▲Midnight Cleanup ▲Donmi Mercenaries ▲Machine Girl, etc.

During the event, approximately 10,000 visitors visited the booth. They experienced the work of Game Talent Institute students on site. On the 16th, People Power Party Rep. Jeong Yeon-wook (Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, Suyeong-gu, Busan) visited the booth to encourage the students.

Rep. Jeong has been supporting the industry’s development by proposing the ‘K-content tax credit expansion bill’ last September. Rep. Jeong said, “To further strengthen the national competitiveness of K-content and the game industry, I will work to expand educational infrastructure, support R&D, and improve working conditions.”

Meanwhile, the 5th Game Talent Institute project team, Pia’s, won the BEST Experiment category at the G-Star Indie Awards. Explosive Ordnance Disposal Squad is a simulation game where the protagonist steps on a landmine and dismantles an explosive device. It has been recognized for its quality and global competitiveness by winning three consecutive awards, including the 2024 Public Pick at the ‘Busan Indie Connect Festival’ and the POCKY AWARD at the ‘Tokyo Game Show’.

◆ The Game Talent Center Networking Event was a great success, with over 200 industry professionals participating

On the 15th, the Starry Night program was held to help the 5th batch of Game Talent Institute students advance into the industry and expand their network. The event was attended by approximately 200 people, including ▲domestic and international game industry developers from Netmarble, Mgame, Soft-World, ▲associations and organizations, ▲academic experts, ▲Game Talent Institute graduates, and faculty.

Prospective job seekers and entrepreneurs interacted with industry experts and exchanged information such as development experiences and insights in natural work environments. This networking program received a great response from attendees, and we plan to continue to prepare and support future events.

◆ Signing business agreements with global companies and institutions.. Expanding opportunities for global advancement

At this year’s G-STAR, the Game Talent Center achieved results in global cooperation by signing business agreements with ▲global game publishing company ‘ZTQ games’ ▲Taiwanese information and communications company ‘Taipei Computer Association’ ▲global game/software service company ‘Q Games’.

GTQ Games and the Taipei Computer Association agreed to actively promote global talent exchange through Taiwan internship programs and recruitment cooperation. They promised to strengthen field-centered education by discussing various collaboration plans with Q Games, such as expanding the curriculum for special lectures for QA practitioners and supporting the FGT (Focus Group Testing) trainee development project.

In addition, the Game Talent Institute signed a business agreement for a global talent development exchange with the Japan Online Game Association (JOGA) and decided to support the advancement of Game Talent Institute students into the domestic and international markets.

KOCCA Game Infrastructure Development Team Leader Hyunhoon Cho said, “Through this G-Star participation, students could showcase the games they developed to industry insiders and the public and gain practical experience that will serve as an important stepping stone for growth.” He added, “We will continue to strengthen domestic and international cooperation, foster game talent with global competitiveness through practical education, and contribute to the development of the Korean game industry.”
