Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, recruiting schools to participate in ‘Visiting Game Culture Class’ in 2023

    By Editorial Team2022년 12월 19일Updated:2023년 06월 24일3 Mins Read

    – For elementary and middle school students, out-of-school youth, and special (disabled) students nationwide
    – Game literacy and game-based coding education to spread a healthy game culture and explore career paths

The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the Korea Creative Content Agency, and the Game Culture Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Foundation) announced they are recruiting schools to participate in the ‘2023 Visiting Game Culture Class’ until January 16th.

◆ ‘Visiting Game Culture Class’ expanded understanding of games with the participation of 22,000 teenagers nationwide

‘Visiting Game Culture Class’ operates game literacy and game-using coding education for teenagers, and in 2022, 22,000 teenagers nationwide participated. Through the operation of ‘textbook-centered education’ centered on textbooks, the positive value of games was spread, and capabilities for future careers were cultivated. Unlike last year, in 2022, a wider range of youths could participate by establishing a new ‘topic selection special lecture’ and operating customized education for participants.

For effective education operation, the foundation divided the country into six regions (Seoul/Gyeonggi·Incheon/Chungcheong/Gyeongsang/Jeolla/Gangwon·Jeju), recruited local instructors, and established a dispatch system in case of emergency. Workshops and regular refresher training are conducted to improve the professionalism of instructors and strengthen class guidance capabilities to meet the ever-expanding demand from schools and institutions participating in education nationwide.

◆ Development of a ‘game-based coding’ textbook reflecting the direction of the revised curriculum

In addition, the foundation developed a ‘game-based coding’ textbook that reflects the direction of the 2022 revised curriculum to increase the effectiveness of education. In order to respond flexibly to future changes, the curriculum was designed with the concept of competency encompassing knowledge/understanding, process/function, and value/attitude.

This textbook contains content for cultivating basic digital knowledge and computational thinking. As a result of confirming the level of academic achievement, coding education using game content was operated to seek ways to utilize game content in daily life positively.

◆ Recruitment of schools participating in ‘2023 Visiting Game Culture Class’

In 2023, the foundation plans to operate education for elementary and middle school students, out-of-school youth, and special (disabled) students across the country in order to spread a healthy game culture and help them navigate their careers through education on how to use games correctly and how to use them.

Education can be applied for after registering as a member at the ‘Game Literacy’ homepage (g-class.or.kr) at the school level. When applying, it is divided into ‘textbook-based education’ and ‘topic selection special lecture’ courses. The ‘textbook-centered education’ process consisted of ▲ ‘game literacy’ education to prevent excessive immersion in games and spread a healthy game culture and ▲ ‘coding using games’ to enhance creativity and provide opportunities to explore career paths. The ‘topic selection special lecture’ course consists of ▲prevention education ▲, information ethics, and ▲career education based on game literacy.

Schools recruited this time will participate in the education from March next year. For related inquiries, refer to the homepage (g-class.or.kr), call 1577-0208 (extension number 1), or email (gameclass@gameculture.or.kr).

Meanwhile, the foundation operates various programs to spread the right game culture, such as ‘game literacy education for guardians,’ ‘game culture family camp,’ ‘game and immersion healing center program support,’ and ‘optional game time system.’ can be found on the Game Culture Foundation website (gameculture.or.kr).
