- Review of British solo developer Husban Siddiqi’s debut work, “Star Fox + Armored Core”
- An arabesque futurism-inspired space opera world launching on Steam on August 14
British one-person development studio HUSKRAFTS officially released the roguelike arcade space fighter action game ‘Rogue Eclipse’ on Steam on August 14th in partnership with publisher Outersloth.
The new title ‘Rogue Eclipse’ embodies a unique sci-fi aesthetic called ‘Arabesque Futurism’ within a space opera worldview. In particular, it draws attention by reinterpreting the distinctive sense of speed and spectacle of past arcade space shooting games with a modern sensibility.
It features a vibrant soundtrack, smooth performance, and optimization for handheld devices, while emphasizing the unique challenging fun of arcades through a control system that is easy to learn but difficult to master.
A pilot on the front lines risking the future of humanity
The player becomes a frontline pilot carrying the future of humanity and fights against squadrons of fighter jets pouring down from the abyss of the galaxy and ruthless enemy fleets.
It captures the true essence of roguelikes, allowing players to grow and challenge again even after falling in battle, and features dynamic combat where players directly infiltrate the interior of the massive enemy ‘Behemoth’ and advance by breaking through destructible terrain.
The ultimate goal is to defeat the evil entities spread across the universe by upgrading your fighter jet and honing your piloting skills through repeated battles. The roguelike campaign, composed of multiple chapters, is also notable for adding to the fun of replayability, as new enemies and dangerous environments appear with every playthrough.
Destructive Arsenal and Fighter Customization
The core of ‘Rogue Eclipse’ is its heart-pounding, dynamic space flight action. With controls that lower the barrier to entry while adding depth, you can engage in combat by selecting from a variety of destructive weapons.
It also offers the fun of upgrading fighter jets as the game progresses and customizing them to suit the user’s preferences. According to the Steam page, the game fully supports not only keyboard and mouse controls but also gamepads, and has expanded platform versatility by also supporting optimization for handheld environments such as the Steam Deck.
A meeting between a solo developer from IGDA and the ‘Among Us’ production team
‘Log Eclipse’ is the debut work of UK-based solo developer Husban Siddiqi (alias Huskrafts).
Husvan Siddiqui is a graduate of the IGDA Foundation’s NextGen Leaders program and has a history of receiving support from the Epic MegaGrant and the Creative England New Idea Fund.
Outersloth, which is in charge of publishing, is a publishing label launched by Innersloth, the developer of ‘Among Us’, to support indie developers’ entry into the market.
“Star Fox Meets Armored Core”… Overseas Media Also Taking Note
‘Rogue Eclipse’ garnered attention from overseas game media even before its official release.
GamingOnLinux described this work as “a meeting of Star Fox and Armored Core,” and PC Gamer also evaluated it as a title that carries on the spirit of Star Fox.
Dutch media outlet GAMESTIC praised it as an impressive debut featuring high-quality visuals, an upbeat soundtrack, and smooth performances, but pointed out that some notification sounds could be somewhat annoying.
Since its official release, Steam user reviews currently stand at a ‘mixed’ rating. Some users cited the lack of a clear story direction and the repetitive use of voice lines as areas for improvement.
Developer Husban is demonstrating a commitment to continuous updates, including announcing plans through the Steam community to improve the content diversity of Chapter 1 so that it can be experienced at an earlier stage.
Previously, in May 2025, a free demo was released, showcasing a tutorial, playable runs, and various customization elements.
‘Rogue Eclipse’ has landed on Steam, receiving praise for delivering polished arcade space action despite being the debut work of a solo developer. The game is currently available on PC (Steam) for $19.99 (with a 10% launch discount applied until August 28).
