- Wrapping up approximately 5 months of Early Access… Official PC release on October 29
- Featuring 7 chapters and 4 alternate endings based on Early Access feedback
HYPNOS, a surreal narrative exploration game developed by Redlock Studio, will be released as the official PC version (1.0) on October 29. This marks the official launch approximately five months after its debut on Steam Early Access last May.
‘Hypnos’ is a new indie title that has garnered attention for its unique worldview and dreamlike graphics. The development team stated that they actively incorporated feedback received from global users during the approximately five-month early access period to elevate the game’s quality to the next level.
The highlight of this official version is its significantly expanded volume and deepened narrative. Along with a total of seven massive chapters, it features four alternate endings to conclude the player’s journey.
In particular, ‘Hypnos’s’ unique multi-ending system catches the eye. It implements an anomalous narrative where not only the direct choices made by the player within the game but also the consequences of remaining ‘silent’ or standing by without taking any action organically influence the ending.
In addition, the official version expands the new areas available for exploration and adds a large number of new characters with unique narratives. The development team heightened anticipation for the official release, stating, “We have placed a variety of hidden elements throughout the game that will surprise users.”
To the nameless city to find the boy in my dream
‘Hypnos’ is a game where you explore the ‘Nameless City’ in search of a mysterious boy who appears in dreams. Players encounter strange dreamers, spirits, and creatures from another world as they follow the stories hidden throughout the city.
The game progresses by allowing you to freely explore a semi-open world. Conversing with the inhabitants of ‘Far Reaches’ and making choices changes the fate of the characters. You can also approach the secrets of the world by interacting with the environment to alter dream matter and lift the veil obscuring reality.
Adding branching narratives to the ‘Maze Chronicles’ worldview
‘Hypnos’ is set in the world of Redlock Studio’s ‘The Maze Chronicles’. Following its predecessor ‘Blackshard’, it maintains the series’ signature atmosphere while adding a structure where the story branches based on the player’s choices.
The soundtrack was handled by French multimedia artist and composer ALT236. It sets the game’s atmosphere by adding dreamy colors to ambient and retro electronic music.
Redlock Studio is a development company based in Grenoble and Lyon, France. They have been building the ‘Maze Chronicles’ universe for 15 years, drawing inspiration from mythology, religion, literature, popular culture, science, and role-playing campaigns.
Early Access Concludes Amid Positive Reviews from Steam Users
During the Early Access period, ‘Hypnos’ proved its solid gameplay by receiving ‘very positive’ ratings from Steam users. At the time of the report on October 23, it recorded an overwhelmingly positive rating of 95% out of 105 total Steam reviews.
Users praised the game’s unique surreal worldview, dreamlike atmosphere, and the fun of deep exploration, while major media outlets also took note of its visual distinctiveness and original art style.
However, there are conflicting views among users regarding the density of exploration and the way the narrative unfolds, with some raising concerns that the worldview feels somewhat empty and it is difficult to immerse oneself in the narrative.
Meanwhile, ‘Hypnos’, which is taking its first step with the release of a PC version, has also announced platform expansion. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions for console users are scheduled to be released in 2026.
