- New title from 4-person indie developer Idiocracy in Uiwang, Gyeonggi-do officially released on Nintendo eShop
- 200 Single Player · 10 Co-op Stages, Tag Swap and Combo Play… Supports TV, Tabletop, and Handheld Modes
- Warm 2D aesthetics, cooperative puzzles, and even customization… A new challenge for Korean indie platformers
All the acorns were stolen. The Pig King’s henchmen raided the village and looted every single acorn collected over the course of a year. The smallest but bravest squirrel sets out on a solo adventure to retrieve the acorns, and at the end of the journey, he teams up with a large but somewhat eccentric roe deer.
“WACKY! DEER & MUNK ADVENTURE,” a 2D cooperative action platformer for Nintendo Switch developed by IDIOCRACY, INC., a four-person indie game developer based in Uiwang, Gyeonggi-do, based on KakaoTalk emoticon character IP, was officially released on the Nintendo eShop on June 25.
Since its release, it has been garnering attention in the domestic community as a Korean cooperative action game, earning the nickname “Korean version of Split Fiction.”
Cute and lively 2D visuals of Korean forest animals
The game features warm colors reminiscent of Korean forests and 2D graphics that feel handcrafted. Each region captures a different atmosphere, ranging from an autumn squirrel village filled with golden acorns to dangerous stages guarded by the Pig King’s minions and unique boss battle stages.
The sound design also further enhances the game’s cheerful atmosphere. From the voice acting of GO Rani and DA Squirrel bickering back and forth, to the cheerful sound effects when acquiring acorns, and the celebratory music that plays upon successful cooperative play, these elements add to the fun of the adventure.
In addition, it features collection and customization elements, allowing you to customize your character by unlocking hundreds of costume items such as hair, face, outfits, and dances.
A cooperative action game where you switch between GO Rani and DA Ramji’s abilities to strategize.
The core of the game is the ‘tag swap’ system, which utilizes two protagonists with different abilities according to the situation.
GO Rani is specialized in fast dashes, high jumps, object movement, and weapon usage, while DA Ramji possesses the ability to double jump, glide, and pass through narrow passages. Players must switch between controlling the two characters to clear puzzles and action sections.
In single-player mode, one person freely switches between two characters, while in 2-player co-op mode, each player takes on a character to tackle stages together. Some sections require the cooperation of both players, emphasizing the fun of cooperative play.
In addition, it is notable that the single-player and two-player modes feature different stories. It stands out for being designed to allow players to enjoy the story from different perspectives, even within the same game.
The amount of content is also substantial. It offers a structure that allows for consistent enjoyment, featuring 200 single-player stages and 10 co-op-exclusive stages, as well as various boss battles, challenges, and a shop upgrade system.
“The Wall of Reality Was Higher Than Expected”… A Four-Person Team’s Challenge to the Nintendo eShop
Idiocracy CEO Kim Seong-gi reflected on the development process, stating, “We continued development based on the power of the IP, dreaming of a Korean Super Mario, but the wall of reality was much higher than expected.”
The four-person development team, which has consistently pursued a cross-platform strategy spanning mobile and Nintendo Switch, has set another milestone with this Nintendo eShop launch.
GO Rani and DA Ramji first became known to users as KakaoTalk emoticons, then expanded to mobile apps (iOS and Android), and have now expanded their IP reach by entering the Nintendo Switch. The game supports TV mode, tabletop mode, and handheld mode, allowing it to be played in various environments.
Interest is growing in how Nintendo Switch users will react to ‘Go! Go Rani and DA Squirrel’s Great Adventure,’ which combines domestic character IP with a cooperative action platformer.
