- A single-player roguelike mystery game created by a three-person development team from the UK
- Tiny Teams Demo Receives Positive Reviews at Festival… Official Discord Surpasses 1,300 Members
Gilded Rune Games, an indie game developer from Bristol, UK, announced that it will officially release the single-player social deduction roguelite ‘Dupery: A Game of Solo Deduction’ on PC (Steam) on October 15, 2026.
The official release schedule has been confirmed thanks to the success of the demo version showcased at the recent Steam ‘Tiny Teams’ festival. In response to the support from users since the demo phase, the development team plans to continue updating and making the demo version available at all times leading up to the official launch.
‘Dupery’ has consistently garnered user interest since its initial reveal last May, and the official Discord community currently has over 1,300 users participating.
Social deduction enjoyed without friends… Uncovering lies all by yourself
‘Dupery’ is a game that reimagines the psychological warfare and deduction elements of the multiplayer social deduction genre into a single-player roguelite.
The player becomes a detective chasing an unidentified criminal organization set in a noir-style city and must solve grid-based procedurally generated cases one by one.
All suspects in the game offer their own statements, but only a select few tell the truth. Players must compare the conflicting statements and identify fatal contradictions to uncover the culprit’s identity.
The game features over 200 handcrafted roles, including the Innocent, Meddler, Underling, and Traitor. A key feature is that even for the same case, the progression changes depending on which role is assigned, requiring players to solve the mystery in a new way every time.
During the investigation process, an investigation toolkit can also be used to directly organize the relationships between criminal organizations and individuals using thread, pins, notes, etc.
In addition, there is a reputation meter that must be managed during the arrest process, three regions with different mechanisms, and roles, traits, and modifiers that can be selected between missions, supporting the replayability characteristic of roguelites.
Tension completed by a noir-style city where lies are exchanged and an investigation board
‘Dupery’ captures an atmosphere of lies and deduction set against the backdrop of a dark, noir-style city. In particular, the investigation board, intricately connected with thread, pins, and notes, is a key visual element symbolizing the game.
Developer Gilded Rune Games is a small 2D indie studio focused on creating titles that combine unique game mechanics with rich story elements. ‘Dupery’ also expresses the genre’s characteristic tension by combining charming 2D graphics with the heavy subject matter of crime investigation.
Collaboration between the Bristol 3-person development team and the ‘PlateUp!’ publisher
Gilded Rune Games is an independent game development studio based in Bristol, UK, run by three people: Matt, Luke, and Lydia. They develop 2D indie games with a small team.
Developer Matthew Brebner described ‘Dupery’ as “a game where you can feel like a real detective without the hassle of paperwork,” stating, “It was really fun to bring it to its current state.”
Publishing will be handled by Yogscast Games. Yogscast Games is a publisher that has released titles such as ‘PlateUp!’, which sold over 3 million copies, and ‘Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers’, which generated over $1 million in revenue in its first month of release.
Founded in 2017, Yogscast Games also runs ‘Tiny Teams’, a Steam festival for small and one-person development teams.
Enthusiastic Response at Tiny Teams Festival
‘Dupery’ made a name for itself after its initial reveal last May by participating as a demo in ‘Tiny Teams’ hosted by Yogscast Games.
The demo was also consistently updated throughout the festival. A new rotating role set called the ‘Scandal Set’ was added, and the ‘Leads’ system, which replaces the existing case selection method, was introduced.
Yogscast Games also introduced the game in its newsletter, eliciting the reaction, “Did a really small team make this?”
The size of the community is also steadily expanding. Over 1,300 users have gathered on the official Discord server, and with continued interest in the demo, the development team has decided to keep the demo available and updated until the official release.
Overseas gaming media outlets, including The Gaming Ground, have also been consistently mentioning ‘Dupery’ since its initial reveal last May leading up to the announcement of the release date.
‘Dupery’ is a game that reinterprets the social deduction genre, which typically requires multiple players to enjoy, into a single-player roguelike mystery game.
‘Dupery’, which caught the attention of users worldwide early on through the ‘Tiny Teams’ festival, is set to officially launch on October 15. Market interest is focused on whether the intense interest from the global community, demonstrated during the demo phase, will translate into increased sales and the formation of a long-term fanbase following the official release.
