- A new turn-based tactical deck-building game by Carl Treadway, a solo developer from Vermont, USA
- A magical war unfolding across the Twelve Zodiac Signs… Turn-based combat where cards and the battlefield interlock.
The turn-based tactical deck-building game ‘Conjurers’ by solo developer Carl Treadway and publisher indie.io will be released on Steam on July 28.
Conjurous is a turn-based tactical game set in the Zodiac. Players must defeat the eight rival wizards who rule the Zodiac one by one and expand their power by incorporating the constellation creatures they command into their own decks.
The core of the game is not merely about defeating enemies, but about absorbing the power of defeated opponents to create an even more powerful hybrid army. The ultimate goal is to defeat the immortal Aquarius and unite the entire Zodiac.
Deep strategy created by terrain and cards
The combat in The Conjuring is characterized by the close interplay between cards and terrain.
The battlefield is not merely a backdrop, but the core of the strategy. High ground, mana towers, and various obstacles act as factors that change the flow of battle, while the performance of creatures varies depending on the terrain in which they are placed. Where and which creatures are deployed leads to a key strategy that determines victory or defeat.
Players construct a deck of 24 cards from over 150 types of creature, weapon, skill, and spell cards. They must efficiently manage their limited mana and carefully decide each turn whether to summon creatures or use spells and skills. Additionally, strategically deploying the eight Conjurers, each with distinct combat styles and battlefield characteristics, against the opponent is a crucial factor in determining victory or defeat.
60 types of constellation creatures and a near-infinite number of hybrid combinations
The game features a total of 60 constellation creatures across 8 categories, including humans, prowler, ungulates, winged creatures, lizards, snakes, and Pollypods. Notably, combining creatures from different categories creates new hybrid creatures.
For example, combining a human and an ungulate creates a Minotaur, combining a Prowler and a Polypod creates a Manticore, and combining a winged creature and a lizard creates a Dragon. In addition to these, various other combinations are available, expanding not only the fun of discovering new hybrid creatures but also the range of strategies.
The game portrays a constellation-themed world based on hand-drawn 2D art and fantasy illustrations. Each creature is distinguished by a design that reveals its class characteristics, while card usage, summoning, and magic effects are conveyed through clean visual effects. The background music and sound effects also create a mysterious atmosphere, completing a calm mood that allows players to focus on tactical gameplay.
Interest from gamers and professional media has risen since the demo was released in March.
Conjurous is a game developed solely by Carl Treadway and released through the indie publisher indie.io.
The game first met gamers last March with the release of a free demo on Steam. The demo consisted of a tutorial lasting about 10 minutes and three boss battles, designed to allow players to experience the game’s core systems in advance.
Subsequently, international gaming media outlets such as Capsule Computers and Christ Centered Gamer introduced the demo and noted its unique gameplay, which combined tactical play utilizing terrain with card-based combat.
As it has not yet been officially released, Steam user reviews have not been compiled, and attention is focused on how high the level of polish of the unique tactical system and hybrid creature combinations will be in actual gameplay after launch, as well as on the reactions of actual users and commercial success.
