Magical Warfare for Zodiac Domination: ‘Conjurers’ Launches July 28

    By Editorial Team2026년 07월 16일3 Mins Read

A turn-based tactical deckbuilder from Vermont solo developer Carl Treadway

A magical war unfolds across the zodiac, where cards and battlefield terrain intertwine in turn-based combat.

Solo developer Carl Treadway and publisher indie.io are launching Conjurers, a turn-based tactical deckbuilding game, on Steam on July 28.

Conjurers is a turn-based tactical game set across the twelve signs of the zodiac. Players must defeat eight rival conjurers who rule the zodiac one by one, absorbing the constellation creatures under their command into their own deck as they expand their power.

The core of the game isn’t just defeating enemies — it’s absorbing the strength of fallen rivals to build an increasingly powerful hybrid army. The ultimate goal is to defeat the immortal Aquarius and unify the entire zodiac.

Deep Strategy Born from Terrain and Cards

Combat in Conjurers is defined by the tight interplay between cards and terrain.

The battlefield isn’t just a backdrop — it’s central to strategy. High ground, mana towers, and various obstacles shift the flow of battle, and creatures perform differently depending on where they’re positioned. Deciding which creature to place where becomes a key factor in victory or defeat.

Players build a 24-card deck from a pool of more than 150 creature, weapon, skill, and spell cards. With limited mana, every turn demands careful judgment — summon a creature, or cast a spell or skill? Choosing among eight conjurers, each with distinct combat styles and battlefield traits, suited to the opponent at hand, is another crucial element of victory.

60 Constellation Creatures and Near-Infinite Hybrid Combinations

The game features 60 constellation creatures across eight families: humans, prowlers, ungulates, wingeds, lizards, serpents, and polypods. Notably, combining creatures from different families produces hybrids.

For example, combining a human and an ungulate creates a Minotaur; a prowler and a polypod create a Manticore; a winged creature and a lizard create a Dragon. With a wide range of combinations available, discovering new hybrids adds both novelty and strategic depth.

The game expresses its zodiac world through hand-drawn 2D art and fantasy illustrations. Each creature is designed with visual traits that reflect its family, while card use, summoning, and magical effects are conveyed through clean visual effects. The music and sound design likewise lean toward the mysterious, cultivating a calm atmosphere suited to focused tactical play.

Strong Interest from Players and Press Since March Demo

Conjurers is a solo project by Carl Treadway, releasing through indie publisher indie.io.

The game first met players in March with a free demo on Steam. The demo consists of a roughly ten-minute tutorial and three boss battles, giving players an early taste of the game’s core systems.

Since then, outlets including Capsule Computers and Christ Centered Gamer have covered the demo, highlighting its distinctive blend of terrain-based tactics and card-driven combat.

As the game has not yet officially launched, Steam user reviews have not yet accumulated. Attention now turns to how well its original tactical systems and hybrid creature combinations hold up in actual play once it releases, and how players respond.
