    Ever wondered what would happen if the emotional depth of a JRPG collided with the frame-perfect precision of a 2D fighter? Quebec-based indie studio BadRez Games is answering that question with their ambitious new title, A Fighter’s Nova: Mindara. Revealed this week during the February indie showcases, the game promises a unique hybrid experience that refuses to compromise on either genre.

    The Best of Both Worlds: Gameplay Mechanics

    The most striking feature of A Fighter’s Nova: Mindara is its binary gameplay structure.

    • Exploration (JRPG Mode): When navigating the world and interacting with NPCs, the game operates with traditional JRPG sensibilities. Players explore a mysterious city, manage relationships, and follow a deep narrative path.
    • Combat (Fighting Mode): The moment an encounter begins, the game transitions into a real-time fighting engine. This isn’t just “action-RPG” combat; it features the technical depth of a standalone fighter, including a Tag-Team system that allows players to swap characters mid-combo.

    As relationships between the protagonist and her allies grow through story choices, new “Duo Techs” and special abilities are unlocked in the fighting mode, making the narrative and combat systems truly interdependent.

    Two Protagonists, One Fate

    The story follows two distinct leads whose paths intertwine in a legendary tournament hidden within a mysterious city:

    1. Maya: A teenage martial artist on a journey to find her true purpose.
    2. Mindara: A vengeful werewolf seeking retribution after being wrongfully exiled.

    The narrative leans heavily on Graphic Manga Cutscenes, emphasizing a stylish anime aesthetic that brings the emotions and the intensity of the life fight.

    Visuals and Voice Acting

According to early reports from Niche Gamer and MonsterVine, the game will feature full English and French voice acting to support its heavy narrative focus.

    BadRez Games is currently preparing a Kickstarter campaign to fund the expansion of the world map, add more story chapters, and refine the fighting mechanics. While the 2028 release date is still a few years away, the studio aims to build a dedicated community of both RPG enthusiasts and FGC (Fighting Game Community) members.
