‘Terminus: Zombie Survivors’, which sold 150,000 copies, unveils full 3D open-world sequel

    By Editorial Team2026년 09월 02일4 Mins Read
    • ‘Terminus’, Started as a One-Person Development, A New Challenge for a Korea Game Awards Winner
    • A sequel continuing the legacy of a predecessor that sold 150,000 copies, featuring eye-catching realistic 3D graphics from a quarter-view perspective.
    • Realistic survival encompassing cooking, construction, farming, and fishing; moving beyond the node system to implement a complete open world

Longplay Studio (CEO Shin In-geon), the developer of the turn-based survival roguelike ‘Terminus: Zombie Survivors’, unveiled the sequel ‘Terminus: Zombie Survivors 2’ on September 2 and opened the Steam store page.

This title, currently under development with a target release on Steam, inherits the turn-based survival system of the previous game while transitioning the graphics from pixel art to realistic full 3D and expanding the world into a single, interconnected open world.

The game is scheduled to support Korean, as well as English, Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, German, and French.

An open world that breaks away from the node system and continues to the final destination on foot.

The ultimate goal of ‘Terminus: Zombie Survivors 2’ is to reach a safe zone, just like in the previous game. However, unlike the node-based system of the previous game where you selected zones on a map to move around, this time you will explore a single, interconnected world by walking directly.

Players can traverse zombie-infested villages, roads, forests, and highways, exploring various locations such as motels, gas stations, supermarkets, and hospitals. Additionally, they must personally search for necessary supplies and procure food, engaging in diverse survival activities including cooking, farming, fishing, crafting, and construction.

Changing environments, such as rain, snow, cold, and darkness, also affect survival. You can survive alone or embark on a journey toward the destination with friends through online cooperative play.

From pixel art to realistic 3D, tension perfected by weather and light

The biggest change in this sequel is the graphics. Instead of the top-down pixel art of the previous game, buildings, characters, and the surrounding environment have been rendered in realistic 3D graphics. The perspective has also changed to a quarter-view, expressing the heights of buildings and terrain, as well as the surrounding environment, in a more three-dimensional way.

The development team plans to create a more realistic survival atmosphere through changing weather and lighting effects, such as rain, fog, night, and darkness.

The sequel to ‘Terminus’, which started as a one-person project and sold 150,000 copies worldwide

Long Play Studio is a South Korean indie game developer established in 2021. Its predecessor, ‘Terminus: Zombie Survivors,’ began development as a one-person project by CEO Shin In-geon, went through Steam Early Access in 2021, and was officially released in August 2024.

The previous game has sold over 150,000 copies worldwide to date and achieved remarkable success both domestically and internationally, including winning the Indie Game Award at the 2024 Korea Game Awards. Subsequently, the ‘Last Escape’ DLC was released, which added the interior of the terminal and a new escape ending.

The sequel focuses on significantly expanding the graphics and world structure while continuing the core survival gameplay established by the predecessor. Unlike the previous game, the developers plan to present a more realistic zombie survival experience in a fully connected 3D open world.

The ‘overwhelmingly positive’ reviews of the previous work are raising expectations for the sequel.

‘Terminus: Zombie Survivors’ currently maintains an ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ rating on Steam, with 98% of its 826 total reviews being positive, and continues to maintain a ‘Very Positive’ trend with 91% of its 103 reviews from the last 30 days being positive.

The previous title was well-received for its solid gameplay and high level of polish, earning the nickname “Turn-based Zomboid” within the domestic community. This is why market expectations and curiosity are simultaneously focused on this sequel, which has embarked on a bold transformation into a full 3D open world, leaving behind the aesthetics of pixel art.

‘Terminus: Zombie Survivors 2’ can currently be added to your wishlist via the Steam store page, and the specific release schedule will be announced later.
