K-Indie Titles Set to Shine at Taipei Game Show 2026

    By Desk2026년 01월 19일3 Mins Read

The global gaming calendar kicks off this year with Taipei Game Show 2026 (TGS 2026), where South Korean indie developers are prepared to showcase the growing prowess of “K-Indie” on the international stage. Scheduled to run from January 29 to February 1, 2026, at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, the event is set to feature its largest-ever indie exhibition.

Record-Breaking “Indie House” Supported by Smilegate Stove

The dedicated indie zone, known as Indie House, has expanded by over 20% compared to previous years. It will host 190 developers from 23 countries, showcasing more than 250 unique titles.

Notably, South Korea’s leading indie platform, Smilegate Stove, has stepped in as the main title sponsor for Indie House. Stove will operate an “Online Showcase” on-site, providing critical support for Korean indie titles looking to penetrate the global market. This initiative is further bolstered by a partnership with the Busan Indie Connect Festival (BIC) to establish a “Global Indie Game Pavilion.”

Three Korean Finalists for the Indie Game Award 2026

The Indie Game Award (IGA) 2026, TGS’s prestigious international competition, saw a record-breaking 515 entries from 51 countries. Out of 38 finalists from 16 nations, three South Korean teams have secured nominations:

    • Graytail (Concode): Nominated in three categories, including Best Visual Art and Best Mobile Game.
    • Telebbit (Ikinagames): Nominated for Best Design, recognized for its innovative teleportation puzzle mechanics.
    • Hermit Computer (VIA studio): A finalist for Best Student Game, praised for its immersive dystopian atmosphere and unique OS-based puzzle mechanics.

    Strategic Moves by Korean Publishers

Beyond the indie scene, several established Korean companies are targeting the Greater China market:

    • Joycity & Capcom: Joycity will unveil Resident Evil: Survival Unit, a mobile strategy game developed in collaboration with Capcom and Aniplex, featuring original creatures designed by legendary artist Yoshitaka Amano.
    • Major9: The agency will host a dedicated booth for Outerplane, featuring cosplay events and exclusive limited-edition merchandise to engage local fans.
    • Gravity & Studiobside: Both companies are confirmed to participate, showcasing their latest lineups as they continue their expansion in the region.

Expanded B2B Zone and Industry Summit

The B2B Zone has seen a 30% expansion, with over 100 companies from 17 countries participating. The Asia Pacific Game Summit (APGS) will run concurrently from January 29 to 30, focusing on six key pillars: Game Development, Indie Games, Marketing, Generative AI, and Emerging Technologies.

Speakers include industry heavyweights such as Shuhei Yoshida (Head of Indies, Sony Interactive Entertainment) and Yoshinori Kitamura (COO of Gravity), offering deep insights into the future of the Asian gaming landscape.

A Gateway to the Global Market

Taipei Game Show has long served as a “bridgehead” for developers entering the Chinese-speaking market and a barometer for Asian gaming trends. Following the global success of K-indie hits like SANABI in 2025, the 2026 ecosystem is more vibrant than ever, supported by increased government backing and aggressive investment from major publishers.
