    146 Teams Compete in ‘WASD Indie Game Contest’, Final 8 Works Awarded

    ○ Five teams in the general category and three in the student category receive awards. Gyeonggi Game Master High School is selected as the best school.
    ○ Up to 2 million won in prize money and various support plans from Smilegate Stove Indie upon game launch

    The Gyeonggi Content Promotion Agency (President Yong-Seok Tak, hereinafter referred to as Gyeonggi Content Promotion Agency) announced the final winners of the ‘WASD Indie Game Contest’, a game development competition co-hosted with Smilegate Stove Indie, on the 30th.

    The contest awards ceremony was held at the Gyeonggi Game Connect event at the Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center International Conference Hall. Eight indie games, five teams in the general category, three teams in the student category, and one excellent educational institution were awarded.

    In the general category, five teams were selected: ▲Blanby Team’s ‘Galvatein: Adventurer’s Guild Office’ ▲IamGame Team’s ‘Masterpiece’ ▲Drabbit Studio’s ‘Soulers’ ▲LazyCnD’s ‘Beginner Dungeon Master’ ▲Kiwisaurus Team’s ‘Otaku of Destruction’.

    In the student category, three teams were selected: ▲Outlaw Team’s ‘The Chroma: Colors from the Wilderness’ ▲DuckUp Games Team’s ‘Magnet Touch’ ▲Neo Team’s ‘NAD’. The Best School Award, given to an educational institution that has submitted several high-quality games in the student category, was won by ‘Gyeonggi Game Meister High School’.

    The general category winner was awarded the Kyungkonjin Director’s Award and a cash prize of 2 million won. Benefits include additional points for the Kyungkonjin support project in the following year, priority negotiation qualifications for Smilegate Publishing, a minimum of 100 million won guaranteed upon signing a contract, and support for global localization costs.

    The student category winner received the Smilegate Megaport CEO Award and a cash prize of 500,000 won. Works released on the Stove platform in the future will receive marketing benefits worth 10 million won.

    A representative of GCA stated, “Of the 146 works submitted, many were unique and had promising futures. “After user voting and expert review, the games with commercial viability and potential for development were selected as the final winners.

    GCA’s CEO Tak Yong-Seok said, “We held a contest in partnership with Smilegate Stove Indie to promote mutual growth between large and small businesses in the gaming industry, and we once again felt the importance of creating a startup ecosystem.” He added, “We will establish a full-cycle training system so that indie game development teams can become business operators and grow into companies that receive investment.”

    Meanwhile, on this day, the ‘Gyeonggi Game Connect 2024’ event also set up an exhibition booth where game users could experience the winning works directly. After the event, the winning works can also be viewed on the Stove platform (www.onstove.com).

    GCA and Smilegate Stove Indie held the ‘WASD Indie Game Contest’ for the first time this year. This game development contest is inspired by the PC game keyboard movement buttons W·A·S·D (Wonderful, Adventurous, Sparkling, Different) and supports indie game creators who are finding their own path.
