- Comic Goblins Meet Horror Dungeons… Start a New Adventure with Version 1.0
- Officially released on Steam with a ‘Very Positive’ rating… Supports co-op play on consoles as well.
Pit of Goblin, a cooperative survival extraction game developed by Swedish indie studio Friendly Foe, will end its Steam Early Access on November 3 and be released as the official 1.0 version. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are also scheduled to be released on the same day.
“Pit of Goblin,” released as an Early Access title in December 2024, has sold over 200,000 copies on Steam to date. Of the 918 total reviews on Steam, 84% are positive, giving it a “Very Positive” rating, while reviews from the past 30 days show 72% positive ratings, maintaining a “Mostly Positive” rating.
The game creates a comical yet tense atmosphere by combining cartoon-style 3D graphics, the goblin’s distinctive giggling sound, and jump scares appearing throughout the dungeon.
Find food and spoils to offer to the Queen.
In ‘Pit of Goblin’, players become greedy and unsightly goblins and explore crumbling underground tombs, spooky caves, and haunted ruins.
The goal is to secure food and loot to offer to the starving Goblin King-Queen. You can cooperate with your companions to venture deep into the dungeon, but it is also possible to collect the loot and escape alone.
Various traps and monsters lurk throughout the dungeon, so unexpected accidents may occur during exploration. While it is important to trust your companions and move together, the fact that betrayal and chaos can arise depending on the situation is also an element of the game’s fun.
In particular, it emphasizes the unique cheerful yet dark atmosphere of goblins through the premise that if you fail to provide enough food to the Queen, you yourself could become the next meal.
The key features of the 1.0 update are 6-player co-op, cross-platform play, and new biomes.
The 1.0 update, which is applied with the official release, was introduced as the largest content expansion during the Early Access period.
The biggest change is the support for up to 6-player co-op. With the number of players increasing from the previous 4 to a maximum of 6, more people can now explore dungeons together. In addition, it supports cross-platform functionality, allowing PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S users to play together.
New exploration areas are also being added. Players can encounter new enemies and discover various secrets through new biomes, such as the lush, vegetation-covered ‘Undergrowth’ and the mysterious ‘Great Library’.
A new playstyle utilizing magic is also introduced. The addition of the ‘Magic Book & Spell’ system, which allows the use of different magic schools and spells, is expected to introduce new variables not only in combat and survival but also in dungeon exploration.
The developer plans to sequentially reveal additional systems, upgrades, new enemies, and surprise elements unique to goblins leading up to the official release.
Friendly Four, a new studio formed by former members of Land Fall and Stunlock
Friendly Four is a small, independent game studio based in Sweden. They aim to develop games that create enjoyable and social experiences and memorable moments for players.
In particular, the development team was composed of personnel from Landfall, which developed ‘All-Accurate Combat Simulator (TABS)’ and ‘Content Warning’, and Stunlock Studios, known for ‘V-Rising’.
Friendly Four presents the core fun of ‘Pit of Goblins’ as the situation where teamwork, friendship, and meticulous planning crumble the moment you enter a goblin lair. It is establishing its own unique identity through a dungeon adventure based on cooperation, yet featuring unexpected accidents and chaos.
