‘Hollow Home’, a game about the war in Ukraine, reaches 140% of its Kickstarter goal… Expanding to Xbox

    By Editorial Team2026년 08월 27일5 Mins Read
    • Ukrainian Indie Team’s Narrative Survival RPG Raises $21,023 on Kickstarter
    • Scheduled for simultaneous release on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, with a target launch date within 2026.

Ukraine-based developer Twigames and publisher Crunchy Leaf Games have successfully concluded the Kickstarter campaign for the narrative survival RPG ‘Hollow Home’ and confirmed plans for an Xbox release.

The Kickstarter campaign for ‘Hollow Home’ ran for 20 days and raised a total of $21,023, exceeding the target of $15,000 . Ultimately, it achieved 140% of the target amount, securing its first stretch goal.

With the conclusion of the Kickstarter campaign, the development team announced that ‘Hollow Home’ will be released not only on PC but also on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One. The PC version is scheduled to be released via Steam and the Microsoft Store, and the game is being supported by the Xbox Developer Acceleration Program, Xbox’s indie developer support program.

‘Hollow Home’ is currently under development with the goal of launching within 2026.

The story of a teenage boy surviving the war

Hollow Home is a narrative-driven survival RPG developed by Twigames, based in Kyiv, Ukraine. Players will experience the story from the perspective of Maksym, a teenage boy enduring the chaos of the early war in a besieged city.

The game’s setting and story are inspired by real events that took place in Ukraine in 2022. The background and themes of the work are even more directly connected, particularly because the development team, currently active in Kyiv, is creating the game while experiencing the actual war.

‘Hollow Home’ has no combat system. Instead, it focuses on dialogue, choices, and actions to survive day by day. The fates of the characters and the appearance of the city change depending on the player’s choices, and managing ‘Resolve,’ which represents Maxim’s mental state, is also an important element.

The city is also not a fixed space. New dangers and opportunities emerge depending on the player’s actions and actual historical events, and sometimes certain areas of the city become inaccessible.

From resource management to multiple endings, choices determine survival

To survive, you must roam throughout the city to secure resources, craft necessary items, or cook food. Maintaining Maxim’s morale is also a crucial factor for survival.

A skill system that enhances character abilities is also provided. Players can develop their skills to acquire new ways to solve quests and cope with various situations.

The player’s choices directly influence the game’s ending. Depending on the choices, the fates of Maxim and the surrounding characters change, leading to various multiple endings.

The game also utilizes actual war records. Twigames recently announced that it is collaborating with Ukrainian Radio, a Ukrainian public broadcaster, to incorporate real radio archive recordings from the early days of Russia’s full-scale invasion into the game. Through this, the company plans to convey the atmosphere and realism of that era within the game.

Development of additional content due to Kickstarter success

The funds raised through this Kickstarter will be used for additional development beyond the existing development plan. Following the achievement of the first stretch goal, two new in-game outfits for the protagonist Maxim will also be added.

With the conclusion of the campaign, the development team expressed gratitude to backers worldwide and considered it a meaningful achievement to be able to bring the game to more players via Xbox and PC.

‘Hollow Home’ has already been recognized for its artistic merit at various indie game events. It won ‘Best Conference Game’ and ‘Game Star’ at Games Gathering in 2024, and won the Nordic Game Pitch Battle in the same year. It also won ‘Most Promising Game’ and the ‘Critics’ Choice Award’ at Indie Cup Ukraine in 2023.

Focusing on dialogue, choices, resource management, and survival instead of combat and action, ‘Hollow Home’ deeply conveys the extreme tragedy of war to the player.

Reflecting the vivid experiences of the development team who are actually going through war and the horrors of Ukraine in 2022, this work aims to be a narrative RPG that goes beyond a simple survival game for entertainment and fully captures the daily lives and weight of life of individuals that continue even amidst the shelling.

You can directly experience the desperate record of those who captured the reality’s tragedies, which continue even at this very moment, on the screen of a game through the upcoming game release.
