Stone Age Survival Game ‘Polylithic’ Officially Releases 1.0 After 3 Years of Early Access

    By Editorial Team2026년 08월 26일5 Mins Read
    • Officially released after 3 years of early access… Up to 10-player co-op and a colorful low-poly world
    • Version 1.0 Unveiled with the Biggest Update Ever, Adding Pets, Hostile Tribes, and Cooking Mini-games

Polylithic, a Stone Age tribe survival game developed by Czech developer Polyperfect and published by indie.io, was released as official version 1.0 on August 25, 2026.

‘Polylithic’ is a third-person open-world survival and colony simulation game featuring stylized and colorful low-poly visuals.

Since entering Early Access on November 9, 2023, it has undergone more than 50 updates over the past three years, and this 1.0 version was introduced as the largest update to date containing the most content.

A non-brown Stone Age, from hunting to tribe management

‘Polylithic’ portrays the prehistoric era, when humans had not yet reached the top of the food chain, in a colorful low-poly world. Players take on the role of a tribal chief and experience the journey of evolving from a Paleolithic hunter-gatherer lifestyle to a Neolithic settled life.

You must personally oversee hunting and crafting, as well as settlement expansion and technology tree management, and demonstrate complex management skills to respond to the harsh prehistoric winters, external threats, and the unpredictable behavior of your tribesmen.

The game supports not only solo play but also online cooperative play with up to 10 players. Additionally, you can play an infinitely generated sandbox mode where you can freely explore the world and cause trouble without progressing through the story.

The 1.0 update added a pet system where you can adopt either a dog or a hyena. New enemies appear, including hostile tribes threatening settlements, a new boss mammoth, and bison, which the developers simply described as having a “bad temper.”

In addition, the addition of a full-body customization system allows players to decorate their characters more freely. A cooking mini-game with procedurally generated recipes and a tribal ball held every two days offer unique fun. Furthermore, new BBC nature documentary-style cutscenes, improved AI, new weapons, and extensive optimization have been implemented.

A counter-argument to why the prehistoric era must always be brown

Introducing this release, the developer challenged the existing convention that games set in the prehistoric era are skewed toward earthy and brown color schemes.

In fact, ‘Polylytic’ presents bright and cartoonish low-poly visuals rather than realistic reproductions of the prehistoric era, using tags such as stylized, colorful, and alternative history.

In particular, this 1.0 version includes cutscenes reminiscent of BBC nature documentaries. It is expected to showcase a unique prehistoric world by combining the distinctive atmosphere of serious nature documentaries with the game’s humor and unpredictable situations.

Czech studio known for low-poly assets

Polyperfect is an independent game development studio based in Zlín, Czech Republic. It was founded by producer and art director Pavel Novák and made a name for itself by creating various low-poly asset packs and tools for Unity.

The studio has since expanded its scope into in-house game development, and its accumulated experience in low-poly art production can be seen in ‘Polylithic’. Currently, while focusing on developing games with unique visuals and immersive stories, the studio also continues to support game education in collaboration with local universities.

Mixed reviews during Early Access, aiming for a turnaround with 1.0

‘Polylithic’ had been receiving ‘mixed’ reviews, recording a positive rating of around 70% based on total Steam reviews leading up to the 1.0 release. Recent reviews also remained mixed during the Early Access period, with positive ratings accounting for about half.

While there were positive opinions within the community regarding the beautiful visuals, fun, and high potential, there were also criticisms that the game was still lacking in polish. The developer also stated in a community announcement that the version at the time was far from the finished product he was aiming for and asked users to wait for the 1.0 update.

This 1.0 version is the result of significantly reinforcing content, systems, and optimization to reflect these criticisms. However, as there is not yet enough user and media feedback on version 1.0 immediately following its official release, it is expected that we will be able to verify through future reviews how much the new version has addressed the shortcomings of the previous version.

‘Polylytic’ has reached version 1.0 based on content and user feedback accumulated during the approximately three years of early access. The key point to watch after the official launch is how much the mixed reviews from the early access period can be improved through a major update.

Attention is focused on how much the newly added content, such as pets, hostile tribes, new bosses, and cooking mini-games, along with overall optimization, will boost the ratings of actual players.
