- A Stone Age survival game that has expanded to include cooperative, sandbox, and tribe management after 3 years of early access.
- The official version of Tribe Building Survival, complete with up to 10-player cooperative play and procedurally generated worlds.
Polylithic, a Stone Age tribe-raising survival game developed by the Czech indie studio Polyperfect, will conclude Steam Early Access and be released as the official 1.0 version on August 25.
Polylithic is a game set in the Stone Age with colorful low-poly graphics, where the player becomes the leader of a tribe and develops civilization.
The game densely captures the process of human evolution from the hunting and gathering-centered Paleolithic Age to the Neolithic Age, when settled life began. In a harsh environment where humans have not yet risen to the top of the food chain, players must overcome ever-present threats to simultaneously ensure the survival and prosperity of their tribe.
It is also characterized by providing a high degree of freedom through online cooperative play with up to 10 players and a procedurally generated sandbox mode.
From character customization to hyena pets
Since entering Early Access in November 2023, ‘Polyrisic’ has undergone significant changes through more than 50 updates.
Initially, it was closer to a solo hunter-gatherer experience, but it has now evolved into a full-fledged management-based survival game that combines tribe management and survival elements. During this process, cooperative play, a sandbox mode, new biomes, and an expanded skill tree were added sequentially.
The 1.0 update, available with the official launch, further expands the overall content. Players can customize their characters and manage their hunger and physical condition with greater precision. They can also keep dogs and hyenas as pets, and various actions such as expressing emotions and interacting with wild animals have become possible.
In addition, the game’s overall quality has been enhanced with battles against hostile tribes, a cooking mini-game based on random recipes, new story elements and improved AI, the addition of new items, weapons, and mushrooms, and extensive optimization work.
Colorful low-poly visuals and documentary-style direction catch the eye
Visuals and direction are also considered strengths of ‘Polyrisic’. It has been praised for creating a unique atmosphere through the combination of colorful low-poly graphics and ambient sound, providing a sense of immersion beyond a simple low-poly style.
In particular, this 1.0 version features cutscenes with a narration style reminiscent of BBC nature documentaries, further enhancing the humorous yet distinctive tone of the game.
Pavel Novak, Producer and Art Director of PolyPerfect, stated, “Polyrisic 1.0 is different from what we originally envisioned, but it is the result of changes in a positive direction. Early access and the community completely transformed the game, and we realized our goal of creating an experience that elicits laughter even amidst chaos.”
Steam User Reviews ‘Mostly Positive’… Consistent Community Feedback During 3 Years of Early Access
PolyPerfect, an independent game studio based in Zlín, Czech Republic, is a developer that has made a name for itself in the industry through the creation of low-poly asset packs and Unity tools. Recently, while expanding its business scope through in-house game development, it is also actively carrying out game education support projects in cooperation with local universities.
Currently, ‘Polyrisic’ maintains a ‘Mostly Positive’ rating on Steam, with 72% of its 129 user reviews being positive. During the Early Access period, community feedback had a direct impact on the game’s direction, and bug reports and suggestions for improvement have been consistently incorporated, primarily through the Steam forums.
Some users have voiced their support, positively evaluating the development team’s continuous updates even in an environment where it is difficult for indie games to gain attention. Overseas media outlets have also evaluated the 1.0 update as the “largest content expansion since Early Access,” highlighting the humorous changes in presentation and cooperative gameplay elements.
Polylithic is a game that has taken shape alongside the community during its nearly three years of early access. With its colorful visuals, humor, and cooperative gameplay, attention is focused on how version 1.0 will impact the Stone Age survival genre.
