Akira Meets Pinball: ‘Furyball: Rogue Revenge’ Brings Neon-Drenched Chaos to Steam

    By Editorial Team2026년 04월 23일3 Mins Read
    • The Vibe: A high-octane blend of 1970s Grindhouse cinema, Mad Max, and the brutal aesthetics of Akira and Fist of the North Star.
    • The Hook: Labeled as a “Rogue Beat ’em Ball,” the game combines pinball physics with fast-paced action roguelite combat.
    • The Soundtrack: Pulsating Disco-punk beats produced by the renowned French artist The Toxic Avenger.
    • The Team: A bold genre pivot for Rebound CG, the studio previously known for the Tennis Manager series.
    • Status: Steam Open Playtest is now live following its debut at the Games Made in France 2026 showcase.

What happens when you mix the kinetic energy of a pinball machine with the dystopian grit of 80s cult anime? You get Furyball: Rogue Revenge. Rebound CG has officially pulled back the curtain on their tenth title, trading the methodical strategy of sports management for a visceral, ball-slinging revenge story set in a sun-scorched wasteland.

    One Night in Neo-Arcadia

The game drops you into the slums of Neo-Arcadia, a city obsessed with a lethal sport known as Furyball. You play as an outsider with nothing left to lose, armed only with a single, devastating ball. Your mission: cross the city in a single night and reach the “Furydome” for a final reckoning.

Between you and your goal stand various fanatical gangs, each ruling their own district with distinct combat styles. You aren’t just playing a game; you’re fighting your way through a gauntlet where the ball is your only lifeline.

The “Rogue Beat ’em Ball” Experience

Rebound CG is carving out a new sub-genre here. The gameplay revolves around the Furyball—a weapon governed by lethal physics.

    • Angle & Momentum: Players must launch the ball with precision, using the environment to bounce, shatter, and crush enemies. Positioning is just as important as your aim.
    • Modular Synergies: As a roguelite, death is part of the cycle. Between runs, you can install modules to add elemental effects like Burn, Bleed, or Destruction, creating devastating synergies that allow you to clear entire screens of enemies in a single “volley.”
    • Pinball Arenas: The combat zones are heavily inspired by classic pinball tables, filled with bumpers, ramps, and hazards that can either help you or end your run.

    A Love Letter to Retro-Futurism

The visual identity of Furyball is a striking homage to the Exploitation films of the 70s and the legendary manga of the 80s. The character designs scream Hokuto no Ken, while the neon-on-rust environments feel pulled straight from the streets of Neo-Tokyo.

This style is fueled by a soundtrack from The Toxic Avenger, whose “Disco-punk” score provides a rhythmic backbone to the carnage, syncing the explosions and hits to the beat of the music.

    The Pivot of Rebound CG

Based in Angoulême, the “Capital of Comics,” Rebound CG is taking a massive leap. Since 2017, they have been the masters of simulation with the Tennis Manager franchise and even collaborated with 2K on TopSpin 2K25.

Furyball represents a complete shift in philosophy—from managing spreadsheets to managing chaos. By inviting the community into an early Steam Playtest, the 15-person team is looking to fine-tune the “Rogue Beat ’em Ball” experience based on direct player feedback.
