- Japanese-style psychological horror based on themes of isolation, trauma, and distorted perception
- Original Japanese voice dubbing… Horror that crosses the boundary between reality and hallucination
British indie publisher Wired Productions and horror specialist developer Serafini Productions have officially released the psychological horror game ‘BrokenLore: DON’T LIE’ for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Based on the world of ‘Broken Lore’, this new title is a psychological horror game told from a first-person perspective, depicting the story of Junko, a woman living an isolated life. Players follow Junko’s memories, fears, and distorted perceptions, experiencing the process of the boundary between reality and hallucination collapsing.
In particular, an unidentified ‘invisible entity’ that reacts to the player’s actions appears as a key element, and the support for original Japanese voice dubbing further enhances the game’s atmosphere and immersion.
Junko, a hikikomori, stands on the boundary between reality and hallucination
Junko was abandoned by her mother in childhood and grew up under a father who was by her side but emotionally distant. She became accustomed to isolating herself rather than forming relationships with others, and as even the relationships she struggled to establish ended in rejection and humiliation, she eventually chose a life cut off from the world.
Afterwards, as lies, drugs, and repressed memories become intertwined, the world Junko sees begins to distort little by little. Familiar spaces suddenly transform into bizarre places that embody fear and emotions, and Junko is forced to confront the memories and experiences she had been avoiding.
A story from a different perspective that continues from the previous work, ‘Don’t Watch’.
The new title ‘Don’t Rye’ offers a complete story in itself and sheds light on the events of ‘Broken Lore: Don’t Watch’ from a new perspective.
While the previous work viewed Junko from beyond a digital screen, this work allows us to directly enter into her experiences. Through this, a new context is added to the characters and events that connect the two works.
Sebastiano Serafini, Head of Serafini Productions, expressed his excitement and nervousness ahead of the release of this title, stating that he is finally presenting a game that has been in development for a long time. He also explained that the title holds special personal significance for him, as ‘Don’t Rye’ is a story connected to ‘Don’t Watch’.
The game takes isolation, trauma, addiction, and distorted perception as its main themes, and the development team meticulously constructed various spaces and scenes to convey the work’s themes and visual impressions.
‘Invisible entity’ that reacts to the player’s actions
‘Don’t Lie’ bills itself as a Japanese-style first-person psychological horror game focused on exploration and investigation. It is characterized by providing players with an unstable psychological experience through presentations where space is distorted based on memories, fears, and perceptions.
In particular, an “invisible presence” that reacts to the player’s actions in real time emerges as a key system. This entity, whose identity is not clearly revealed, heightens tension by responding to the player’s behavior and links Junko’s unstable perception of reality to the gameplay.
In addition, it includes elements that connect to existing ‘Broken Lore’ titles such as ‘Don’t Watch’, ‘LOW’, and ‘UNFOLLOW’, making it quite enjoyable to explore the entire worldview of the series.
‘Broken Lore: Don’t Rye’ is available starting at $15.99, and a limited-time 10% discount is being offered to celebrate the launch. The Steam demo released prior to launch garnered attention, recording positive ratings in the high 80% range from approximately 47 reviews.
Broken Lore: Don’t Rye is currently available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
