- The debut game of Team Blue Anemoia, graduates of the 5th cohort of Krafton’s talent development program ‘Jungle Game Lab’
- Free Steam release on August 14, 2026, approval/rejection decided via text search and 2D pixel art
Blue Anemoia, a development team from the 5th cohort of Krafton’s talent development program ‘Jungle Game Lab’, presents ‘Sign of the Wave: Blue Sign’, a narrative simulation game centered on document review and selection.
‘Sign of the Waves: Blue Sign’ will be released for free on Steam for Windows PC on August 14 at 4 p.m. (KST). Jungle Game Lab will handle the publishing.
The game takes place in the fictional port city of ‘Lisebra,’ set during the Age of Discovery. Players take on the role of an underwriter for the marine insurance company Fortuna Marine Insurance Company and must review various documents submitted by applicants, such as ship information, sailing plans, and cargo manifests, to approve or reject insurance contracts.
It is difficult to assess the risk by simply checking a single document. Players must compare various documents on the desk and synthesize the information to uncover the hidden dangers in the ship and voyage.
Screening with no right answer… A choice to be made between documents and rumors
The core of ‘Blue Sign’ lies in the fact that not all risks are presented as clear figures or rules.
There are situations where the authenticity of documents cannot be fully verified, and even rumors, circumstances not included in official screening criteria, and the credibility of the applicant influence the judgment. It is entirely up to the player to decide whether to prioritize objective data or trust uncertain information.
The game does not provide a specific correct answer. Which risks to prioritize, how much uncertainty to tolerate, and whose words to trust depend on the criteria the player establishes themselves. This is why different outcomes can occur depending on the player’s judgment, even when encountering the same documents and situations.
Ships approved by the player actually set sail, while rejected contracts also lead to different outcomes. Through subsequent news and epilogues, players can verify the results of their decisions.
After the grueling screening work is over, time is also given to reflect on the day while talking with senior screening officers at a pub. The content of the conversation changes depending on the choices made during this process.
Tension created with 2D pixel art and text-centered investigation
The game features 2D pixel art and text-based investigation gameplay as its core elements. Instead of flashy action or fast combat, the main flow of the game is the process of examining documents on a desk one by one and comparing different information.
It is also characterized by the coexistence of the romantic atmosphere typical of the Age of Discovery and the businesslike, cold atmosphere of having to uncover the dangers hidden behind documents.
The game is a story-driven adventure genre that unfolds around dialogue and narrative. In particular, it enhances immersion by adopting a multi-ending structure where the player’s choices directly influence the final conclusion.
Implementing the actual experience of an insurance underwriter into a game system
The development team Blue Anemoia was formed through the 5th cohort of ‘Jungle Game Lab,’ a talent development program supported by Krafton.
‘Blue Sign’ originated from the experience of a team member who worked as an actual insurance underwriter. The development team explained that they incorporated the information asymmetry, the burden of judgment, and the pressure of making decisions in uncertain situations that occur during the insurance underwriting process into the game’s main systems and story.
The reason the Age of Discovery was chosen as the setting is also because it naturally connects to marine insurance underwriting, given that it was an era where voyages themselves were fraught with numerous uncertainties.
The development team stated that they developed the game with the goal of delivering an experience where players establish their own judgment criteria and accept the consequences of their choices, rather than presenting a fixed answer.
Pre-launch phase, building a community through official channels
‘Sign of the Waves: Blue Sign’ is currently in the pre-release stage, and the development team is building a community by sharing development updates through the official website, Discord, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, and more.
It is also drawing attention for the fact that a team from the 5th cohort of Jungle Game Lab translated their actual professional experience into a game system. In particular, it stands out for utilizing the somewhat unfamiliar subject of insurance underwriting to design the game so that players can directly experience the “weight of judgment with no right answer.”
‘Sign of the Waves: Blue Sign’ is scheduled to be officially released on Steam on August 14.
