Tokyo Game Show 2026, Record-Breaking 759 Companies and 51 Countries Participate… Indie Games in Focus

    By Editorial Team2026년 07월 08일5 Mins Read
    • Preparations for the largest-ever game show are in full swing… K-games, ranging from major studios to indie developers, are set to launch.
    • Record-breaking 3,946 booths… Held at Makuhari Messe for 5 days starting September 17

The Computer Entertainment Association (CESA) announced the list of exhibitors for Tokyo Game Show 2026 (TGS 2026) on the 8th. This year, a total of 759 companies, including 484 from Japan and 275 from overseas, have confirmed their participation, and with 51 countries and regions joining, it is expected to be the largest in history.

The number of booths reaches 3,946. Along with this, the official visitor website has been launched, and the new ticket configuration and sales schedule commemorating the 30th anniversary have also been unveiled.

A total of 759 companies, the largest scale ever… Korean game companies also participated in large numbers

According to the announcement, a total of 759 companies will participate in TGS 2026. Among them, 275 are overseas companies, accounting for more than one-third of the total participants. The number of participating countries and regions has also increased from 46 last year to 51, further enhancing its status as an international game exhibition.

The participation of domestic game companies is also noteworthy. At TGS 2026 this year, major game companies such as Nexon, Krafton, Pearl Abyss, Neowiz, Smilegate, and Kakao Games, as well as numerous small and medium-sized developers and indie game studios, will participate to meet global users and business partners.

In particular, as TGS is an event visited by a large number of publishers, investors, and platform representatives from across Asia—in addition to targeting the Japanese market—it is expected to become a key stage for domestic developers to unveil new titles, secure overseas publishing contracts, and engage in global marketing.

Official Website Opens… ‘5DAYS’ Main Visual Revealed

On the same day, the official visitor website for TGS 2026 also officially opened. Ticket sales information, event programs, and announcements from the organizers will be released sequentially.

Following last year, illustrator Zashikiwarashi was once again in charge of the main visuals. To commemorate TGS’s first-ever five-day event this year, five illustrations were created under the theme of “5 DAYS.” They capture the girl character who appeared in the teaser enjoying the excitement of the game show in different atmospheres.

Zashikiwarashi expressed his hopes, stating, “I hope the unique excitement and atmosphere of a game show are conveyed to everyone, from first-time visitors to repeat visitors.”

New Premium Ticket Launched for 30th Anniversary , Reservation Dates Also Revealed

This year, marking the 30th anniversary, the ticket lineup has also been significantly expanded.

The newly introduced premium ticket is a pass that allows entry for all three public days and includes access to the exclusive lounge ‘Energy Spot,’ priority entry, and original merchandise.

Along with this, a 30th anniversary limited edition ticket featuring a pure gold medal with visuals from the popular game is also being introduced. As a limited edition commemorative item provided on a made-to-order basis, its collectible value has been enhanced.

The ticket sales schedule is as follows.

    • July 11 (Sat) Noon: Lottery registration for Premium and Fast Tickets begins, ticket sales for international visitors start.
    • July 20 (Mon/Public Holiday): Premium and Fast Tickets on a first-come, first-served basis; sales of One-Day Tickets and Special Discount Tickets begin.

Admission is free for elementary school students and younger. The public days will run for three days from Saturday, September 19 to Monday, September 21 (holiday), and separate paid cosplay pre-registration is also being prepared. If you are a cosplayer interested, you can follow the official X account (@tokyo_game_show).

Growing Opportunities for Indie Game Developers

This year’s TGS 2026 is expected to be a more important stage than ever for indie developers. With game companies, publishers, investors, platform representatives, and media gathering from 51 countries and regions, opportunities to showcase new titles and build global networks are expected to expand significantly.

In particular, TGS is a leading global game show where general visitors can not only experience games firsthand but also meet overseas publishers and investors through its business days. It is regarded as an important business platform not only for developers aiming to enter the Japanese market but also for indie studios seeking to expand their sales channels to Asia, North America, and Europe.

During the event, selected works will be unveiled to visitors from around the world through the free indie exhibition program ‘SELECTED INDIE 80’, and a pitching event introducing innovative games, ‘SENSE OF WONDER NIGHT 2026 (SOWN)’, will also be held.

Both programs are representative indie support programs that attract the attention of publishers and media from around the world, offering participating works opportunities to gain global recognition, secure publishing contracts, and attract investment.

In fact, there have been consistent instances where TGS served as a catalyst for signing contracts with overseas publishers, expanding into console platforms, and launching global services. This year, too, based on the largest number of exhibitors in history and a significant proportion of international presence, opportunities for indie developers to enter overseas markets are expected to expand even further.
