Leveling Up Global Reach: Seoul City Opens Recruitment for ‘2026 Game Market’ Support Program

    By Editorial Team2026년 04월 01일3 Mins Read
    • The Goal: Providing a “One-Stop” support system for Seoul-based SME game developers to enter global markets.
    • The Events: Setting up “Seoul Pavilions” at ChinaJoy (Shanghai), BIC (Busan), and G-STAR (Busan).
    • The Support: Covering everything from booth construction and buyer matching to Focus Group Tests (FGT) and feedback reports.
    • The Timeline: Applications are open from April 1 to April 20, 2026.

For a small indie studio, the leap from a local dev environment to a global stage can feel like a final boss fight without the right gear. To bridge this gap, the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Business Agency (SBA) have officially launched the recruitment phase for the “2026 Game Market Seoul Pavilion.” By providing infrastructure and networking that individual SMEs often struggle to afford, Seoul aims to turn local creativity into global export success.

Strategic Roadmap: ChinaJoy, BIC, and G-STAR

This year, the Seoul Pavilion will be a staple at three major industry events, each serving a specific strategic purpose:

    1. ChinaJoy (July, Shanghai): Targeting the massive Asian market. Seoul will support 9 companies to establish a foothold in China’s gaming landscape.
    2. BIC (August, Busan): Focused on the indie heart of the industry. 6 companies will receive support to gather direct user feedback and network with global indie peers.
    3. G-STAR (November, Busan): The premier B2B opportunity. 9 companies will focus on high-stakes business matching with international buyers and publishers.

    Solving the “Big Three” Hurdles

According to the 2024 Korea Game White Paper, small developers face three primary obstacles when going abroad: Lack of market information (18.2%), lack of professional networks (16.7%), and insufficient marketing funds (13.6%).

The Seoul Pavilion is designed to mitigate these risks by offering:

    • Full Infrastructure: Renting and building the booth, providing professional interpretation, and creating promotional materials.
    • B2B Precision: Pre-arranged “Business Matching” sessions to ensure developers meet the right publishers and investors.
    • B2C Insight: Conducting Focus Group Tests (FGT) on-site to provide developers with raw player data and feedback reports to improve their game’s marketability.

    Proven Results: The 2025 Legacy

The program’s effectiveness isn’t just theoretical. Last year’s pavilions at the Tokyo Game Show and G-STAR yielded impressive results for the 18 participating companies.

    A Partner in Creativity

“K-Games are the core engine driving Seoul’s creative industry,” stated Lee Su-yeon, Chief of the Economic Bureau at the Seoul Metropolitan Government. “We will be a reliable partner to ensure that our talented SME developers don’t hesitate to step onto the global stage due to a lack of funding or networking.”

If you’re a developer based in Seoul with a build ready for the world, now is the time to secure your spot. The deadline is April 20—don’t let this “buff” go to waste.
