Seongnam Industry Promotion Agency (President Ryu Hae-pil) and Korea Mobile Game Association (Chairman Hwang Seong-ik) announced on the 16th that they had signed a business agreement to host ‘2022 Indiecraft’.
Seongnam City and Seongnam Industry Promotion Agency have been promoting the indie game contest since 2017 to foster a healthy game ecosystem by nurturing excellent indie games in Korea.
Since 2019, under the name of ‘Indicraft’, it has been expanding the scale and performance of its business through co-hosting with the Korea Mobile Game Association. In 2021, the first online virtual game show using Metaverse was held in Korea, attracting 23 cooperative organizations from 15 countries, inviting overseas developers, and recruiting a total of 30,000 visitors.
This year, we will also hold an online virtual game show using ‘Metaverse’ in consideration of the situation where Corona 19 has not yet disappeared. The opening ceremony, which will be operated both online and offline, will be held on May 25th.
In addition, it is planning to cooperate with overseas game events and form a global organizing committee for overseas indie game developers to participate in global exhibitions, making it a place where domestic indie game developers can advance overseas as well as introduce promising foreign games.
Support for indie game developers will also be more diversified than in 2021 and are decorated with projects that can be of practical help to game developers. In addition to global mentoring, commercialization support that can be directly supported by selected developers, participation in the Seongnam e-Sports Festival (SeN Festival), and participation in famous overseas game exhibitions such as Germany’s Gamescom will support overseas advancement.
Seongnam Industry Promotion Agency President Ryu Hae-pil said, “Seongnam Industry Promotion Agency has been hosting Indiecraft to strengthen the growth capabilities of small and medium-sized indie game companies with creative ideas and excellent game production technology and to strengthen their global competitiveness. Through follow-up support such as online game show, mentoring, commercialization support, participation in overseas exhibitions, and support in connection with sponsors, Seongnam Industry Promotion Agency will become a strong helper for small and medium-sized game companies suffering from COVID-19.”
Hwang Seong-ik, president of the Korea Mobile Game Association, said, “Despite the ongoing difficulties of Corona 19, ‘2022 Indie Craft’ will be held for small and medium-sized indie game developers in Korea this time as well. In particular, we look forward to making this metaverse virtual exhibition focused on global expansion as an opportunity to prepare for the post-corona era once again.”
