Smilegate Future Lab announced on the 25th that it will hold the indie game creation contest ‘2022 IndieGo’ until the 22nd of next month.
2022 Indigo is held for the purpose of discovering an early indie game creation team with potential and building a community through donations and lectures among indie game seniors and juniors. Any indie game developer who has not yet registered as a business and has not yet been released to the platform can apply.
This contest will be judged by Indie developers BePex, CornField, Rabbit Hall Games and Future Lab, which are sponsors. The team/game introduction and prototype will be comprehensively reviewed, and the novelty, completeness, and fun of the game will be evaluated. The total prize money is 12 million won, and all selected teams will be given an opportunity to interview for the 14th session of Smilegate Membership (SGM), a youth creative support program hosted by Future Lab.
It is noteworthy that this year’s contest was held as a relay of donations from fellow developers and seniors who completed SGM. After the first contest last year, SGM completion teams BePex, Cornfield, and Rabbit Hall Games agreed with the purpose of the Smilegate Indie Game Contest, which discovers and supports new creators, and sponsored some of the prize money for early creators.
In addition, on June 3rd, regardless of whether or not they have won awards, they plan to hold a meetup where they can meet fellow creators and share their thoughts and experiences on indie game creation.
Seongjin Hwang, CEO of Cassel Games, who sponsored indie game creators by holding the contest last year, said, “I want to contribute to creating a culture where creators push and guide and support each other.” promised
Baek Min-jeong, managing director of Smilegate Future Lab, which hosted the event, said, “We ask for a lot of interest and participation from competitive indie game creators this year. We will spare no effort in investing and supporting so that it can become the foundation for the development of the indie game ecosystem.”
