- Become friends with the spirits of Baltic folklore and make the ruined world green again
- Soilpunk simulation that creates your own biome using recycling and plant combinations
Positive Impact Games, a new developer from Hamburg, Germany, and ByteRockers’ Games, an indie publisher from Berlin, have released a demo of the healing simulation game ‘The Regreening’ on Steam.
‘The Refining’ is a healing simulation game that deals with the process of restoring a devastated world to lush nature. The developers introduced the game by stating that instead of stimulating action, they plan to offer warm and peaceful gameplay focused on purifying the environment and restoring the ecosystem.
A Soilpunk fairy tale about restoring the ecosystem by growing plants
Players grow plants, restore ecosystems, and recycle discarded materials. They can also befriend ancient spirits inspired by Baltic folklore. As the surrounding environment recovers, wild animals return one by one. The developers posed the game’s question as to whether a devastated world can once again become a home filled with joy.
The story unfolds following the journey of the protagonist, Viri. Players discover new seeds, select animal habitats to restore, and learn the synergies between plants to create their desired biome.
From planting to recycling and communing with spirits
The main activity of the game is planting and tending to plants. You can create your own biome by finding new seed and plant combinations. It is also possible to decorate your house or craft watering devices using materials obtained from clearing out discarded items.
Nature spirits in folklore reward players with powerful abilities if they help them. Some spirits even like shiny objects. Harvested flowers and fruits can be planted in new land or given as gifts to animals and friends.
The developer stated that ‘The Regrinning’ aims to be a game that can be enjoyed comfortably without time limits or pressure. It is designed so that the act of restoring nature flows naturally, and the plan is to complete a calm atmosphere by adding adaptive music, forest sounds, intuitive controls, and a story based on folklore.
Over 7,300 playtest participants… 55,000 items on the wishlist
The development team explained that the healing game community played an important role in the early development process. Over 7,300 players participated in multiple tests, sharing the game’s strengths and areas for improvement, as well as the sense of reward derived from the experience of restoring the world.
‘The Regrinning’ has surpassed 55,000 wishlist registrations on Steam. In this demo, you can experience a game world that captures the sentiment of Baltic folklore and the theme of ecosystem restoration.
