- The Hook: A dark fantasy stealth RPG where light is your greatest enemy and shadows are your only sanctuary.
- The System: Features a unique “Corruption” mechanic—using shadow powers erodes your humanity, requiring “Light Spells” to cleanse your soul.
- The Gameplay: Top-down tactical stealth driven by a dynamic Fog of War and authentic Line-of-Sight mechanics.
- The Team: Developed by Chaolys, a two-man Canadian studio consisting of a physicist and a fantasy novelist/nurse.
In a world where standing in the light can get you killed, shadows are more than just a hiding spot—they are a weapon. Quebec-based developer Chaolys, in partnership with publisher indie.io, has officially released the Steam demo for Nemorsys. This hardcore stealth-action RPG promises a punishing yet rewarding experience for players who prefer the silent blade over open warfare.
A Deadly Contract for Vengeance
The narrative follows Kaelara, a woman seeking revenge against the tyrannical King Murab. To achieve her goal, she strikes a dangerous bargain with an ancient shadow spirit named Nemorsys.
Players will navigate through haunting environments like the Eye-Gouger Tunnels and the Darkened Light Temple. Every step toward the King’s castle is a puzzle of positioning and timing. However, the power granted by the spirit comes at a steep price: the more lives Kaelara takes, the faster she loses her grip on her own humanity.
Mastering the Dark: Line-of-Sight and Lighting
Nemorsys differentiates itself from standard stealth titles through its granular focus on environmental interaction.
- Dynamic Visibility: Using a “Dynamic Fog of War” system, the game limits your vision based on your character’s position and the available light. A single torch carried by a guard can illuminate your hiding spot or reveal a path previously hidden in the dark.
- Environmental Weaponry: Combat is often a last resort. Players are encouraged to manipulate the environment—extinguishing lights, triggering ancient traps, or using structures to crush foes without ever being seen.
- Intelligent AI: Enemies in Nemorsys do not follow static patrol paths. They communicate with one another, react to suspicious noises, and will actively hunt you down if they catch even a glimpse of your shadow.
The Price of Power: The Corruption System
The game’s most unique feature is the balance between Shadow Abilities and Light Spells.
- Shadow Descent: Utilizing powerful stealth abilities increases your “Corruption” level. If this bar maxes out, Kaelara loses her humanity, locking out her access to vital light-based powers.
- Purification: To stay sane, players must use one of five distinct “Light Spells.” These spells serve to cleanse corruption and protect the player from the darkness, forcing a constant strategic tug-of-war between power and survival.

A Fusion of Physics and Fantasy
Chaolys is the result of a fascinating partnership. The studio consists of Hugo Marcoux, a programmer with a background in engineering physics, and Sébastien, a fantasy novelist and part-time nurse who handles world-building and level design. This blend of technical precision and narrative depth is evident in the game’s systems-heavy design.
The current Steam demo features a character starting at Level 3, allowing players to experiment with a variety of unlocked skills immediately. With 20 total skills to master and multiple endings to discover, Nemorsys is shaping up to be a standout title for fans of tactical, atmospheric stealth.
