A Tale of Family and Loss: Emotional Puzzle Indie ‘Swan Song’ Set for June 4 Release

음표를 배치해 길을 만드는 독창적인 퍼즐 구조 및 서정적인 서사 구조가 돋보이는 작품

    • The Narrative: A heart-wrenching puzzle adventure based on the real family experiences of the developers.
    • The Hook: Players solve puzzles by arranging musical notes on a scale to create paths for a swan.
    • The Pedigree: Developed by the creators of the award-winning hit Sizeable (200,000+ copies sold).
    • The Launch: Officially releasing on Steam on June 4, 2026, with a free demo of the first chapter available now.

What remains in the final notes of a life well-lived? Belgian indie developer Business Goose Studios officially announced the release date for their latest title, Swan Song, during the Galaxies Showcase. Moving away from the mechanical scale-shifting of their previous work, the studio is now delivering a deeply personal story about memory, regret, and the enduring bonds of family.

A Masterpiece Hidden in a Music Box

The game begins with the discovery of an old, intricate music box. Contained within are the personal belongings and memories associated with a craftsman’s final masterpiece, titled “Swan Song.”

As players solve puzzles, the box unfolds like a pop-up book, revealing fragments of a family’s history. Based on the actual family experiences of one of the studio’s developers, the narrative explores the “swan song” of a life—the final, most beautiful expression of love and the difficulty of letting go.

    Composing the Path: Gameplay Mechanics

Swan Song features a unique puzzle system where music is the primary tool for progression.

    • Musical Notation Puzzles: Players place notes onto a musical scale. The resulting melody activates platforms and clears obstacles.
    • The Winding Key: Once the notes are set, you wind the music box to play the composition. If the melody is correct, the swan moves across the stage to reach the goal.
    • Atmospheric Storytelling: Each puzzle solved unlocks letters and voice-acted segments that provide context to the craftsman’s life and his relationship with his family.

Aesthetic Excellence: Low-Poly Art and Jamal Green

The game features a warm, low-poly 3D art style that emphasizes the “handmade” feel of a wooden music box. The cozy visuals are complemented by a soundtrack from Jamal Green, the acclaimed composer of the indie hit TOEM.

The audio experience is further enriched by full voice acting from Emily Kolm and Matt Harris, bringing an extra layer of intimacy to the letters and memories found within the box.

From Mechanical Puzzles to Emotional Depth

Business Goose Studios, founded by three game design graduates in Hasselt, Belgium, first gained international recognition with Sizeable. That title won “Debut Game of the Year” at the Belgian Game Awards and maintains a 96% “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam.

With Swan Song, the team is pivoting toward a more narrative-heavy approach. Early community feedback from the Steam demo suggests the transition is a success, with players praising the “melancholy beauty” of the musical puzzles and the emotional weight of the storytelling.
