- An escape that began after the collapse of the moon… A narrative of survival and choice unfolding on a twisted spaceship
- Moon Collapse → Escape Vessel → Spread of Madness… A Sci-Fi Horror RPG Combining 2.5D Combat and Environmental Narrative
Romanian indie studio Gamer Cloud has released the sci-fi horror action RPG ‘2nd EVE’ on Steam and the Epic Games Store as an early access title.
The game depicts a story of survival and choice unfolding aboard the ‘Argos,’ a spaceship that has undergone a bizarre transformation following teleportation, as humanity attempts to escape the brink of extinction caused by the collapse of the moon. It is characterized by a combination of a deliberate combat system, free-form builds, and environment-driven narrative direction.
Humanity’s Last Escape in a World with a Shattered Moon
The world of Second Eve begins with a catastrophe in which the moon shatters into pieces. As the moon, having deviated from its orbit due to an unknown impact, slowly approaches Earth, humanity holds onto its last hope by sending three massive colony ships to ‘Proxima B,’ the planet most similar to Earth.
The character controlled by the player is Sister Zola, a nun, psychiatrist, and high-ranking officer. Her mission is to protect the migrants in cryogenic sleep from mental breakdown during the long voyage. However, the moment the ship ARGOS teleports, reality begins to crack.
One by one, the crew members lose their sanity and transform into nightmarish beings, while the machines escalate beyond mere malfunctions to hunt living creatures. Eventually, the entire ship turns into a hostile labyrinth that constantly shifts its form.
Careful combat and free growth
Combat emphasizes careful judgment and tempo rather than fast action. Battles unfolding in the narrow corridors and engineering districts of the ship Argos are rendered in a 2.5D perspective, highlighting the importance of spatial placement. Zola fights by combining melee attacks using a staff with supernatural abilities. Each ability operates on a cooldown basis, and deciding when and which skill to use is the key strategy of the battle.
The build system without class restrictions is another notable feature. Players can freely develop their characters ranging from ranged-focused playstyles to melee-focused ones, and experiment with new combat methods and strategies every time through various ability combinations.
The game unfolds around a narrative. Through scattered logs, twisted crew testimonies, and inexplicable traces, players piece together what happened when Argos entered the teleportation.
As Zola tracks down the cause of the corruption, he must make a choice between those he can save and those who are already beyond redemption. These decisions have a direct impact not only on the progression of the story but also on the fate of the ship.
An atmosphere of horror melting into the silence
Second Eve chose to tell its story through the environment rather than through flashy visuals. The tragedy following the hyperspace jump is gradually revealed through damaged terminals, fragmentary transmission signals, and scattered crew logs.
Flickering lights illuminate traces of the past, distant echoes hint at unseen horrors, and noise-laden transmission signals cut into the silence. The minimized UI is designed to allow players to fully immerse themselves in the eerie atmosphere without complex menus or resource management.
In the actual Steam community, users who experienced the pre-release demo responded that “the music, sound, and visual presentation are very impressive.”
