The King’s Purse is Mightier than the Sword: Slavic RTS ‘Crown of Greed’ Debuts on Steam

    By Editorial Team2026년 04월 01일3 Mins Read
    • The Inspiration: A spiritual successor to the cult classic ‘Majesty’ series.
    • The Gimmick: Indirect control—you don’t command units; you bribe them with gold.
    • The Setting: A dark, Slavic-inspired fantasy realm called Rodovia, filled with basilisks and hags.
    • The Progression: Features 12 non-linear story missions and a “Heritage Point” system for permanent upgrades.

Tired of micromanaging every single soldier on the battlefield? Polish indie studio BLUM Entertainment has released a solution that trades direct orders for cold, hard cash. Crown of Greed officially launched on Steam on March 31, 2026, bringing a refreshing twist to the real-time strategy genre by focusing on the greedy hearts of its heroes.

Rule Through Greed: The Art of Indirect Control

In Crown of Greed, your units are not mindless drones. They are autonomous heroes with their own desires, fears, and—most importantly—price tags.

    • Bounty System: Want to destroy a monster den? Place a bounty on it. Want to scout a dark forest? Offer a reward.
    • Hero Autonomy: Characters decide whether to accept your gold based on their personality traits and current health. This flips the traditional RTS script, forcing you to manage the kingdom’s economy and social influence rather than unit formations.
    • The World of Rodovia: Set in a realm steeped in Slavic folklore, you’ll defend your borders against iconic threats like Baba Yaga and the Drowner. When gold isn’t enough, you can intervene directly with powerful spells unlocked as your settlement grows.

    Strategic Depth: Traits and Heritage

The game adds layers of complexity through its hero and progression systems:

    1. Randomized Traits: Every hero you recruit comes with a unique set of pros and cons. A warrior might be a giant-slayer but suffer from low stamina; a rogue might be a master of stealth but harbor a secret cowardice.
    2. Heritage Points: As you complete campaigns, you earn “Heritage Points.” These are used to unlock permanent kingdom upgrades that carry over to future missions, allowing for a sense of persistent growth even in the face of defeat.
    3. Non-Linear Missions: The 12 included story missions feature branching objectives. Your choices during a scenario can shift the endgame, providing high replay value for strategy enthusiasts.

    A Polish Powerhouse Project

BLUM Entertainment, the team behind Builders of Greece, has funneled its experience in optimization and simulation into this project. Lead developer August Maciejkowicz noted that the team focused heavily on visual fidelity and replayability, enlisting voice veteran George Ledoux to narrate the dark tales of Rodovia.

The game also launched with a Supporter Pack DLC, including a 90-page digital artbook and a 50-minute original soundtrack that captures the eerie, atmospheric vibes of Slavic folk music.

    The Early Verdict

While the removal of the demo just before launch raised some eyebrows in the community, the early feedback from Majesty veterans has been overwhelmingly positive. The game successfully captures that rare “chaos management” feeling where you aren’t just a general, but a king trying to keep a group of eccentric mercenaries from bankrupting the treasury.
