The Korea Indie Game Association, which is leading the way in developing the domestic indie game industry and fostering its ecosystem, is opening a branch in the Gyeongnam region.

The Korea Indie Game Association is an indie game non-profit organization with its headquarters in Seoul. Since its establishment in 2013, it has supported the growth of indie game developers through various programs such as the ‘PlayX4 Indie Rock Room’, ‘Indie Awards’, ‘Game Jam’, ‘Education Project’, and the operation of the community cafe ‘Indie’.

Through the opening of the Gyeongnam branch of the Korea Indie Game Association, we are focusing on strengthening the indie game development capacity of Gyeongnam, while also promoting balanced regional development of the game industry concentrated in Seoul and Gyeonggi, and expanding the network among indie game developers nationwide.

Yoon Min-hyung, CEO of Gonggam Orae Contents, has been appointed as the Gyeongnam branch manager. CEO Yoon is planning various activities to develop the local indie game industry, and plans to actively promote cooperation and external exchanges with indie game companies in the Gyeongnam region.

CEO Yoon Min-hyung said, “Through the opening of the Gyeongnam branch, we will prepare various support programs that can provide practical help to local indie game developers,” and “I hope that through this opening, this branch will play a big role in the development and revival of the Gyeongnam region’s indie game industry.”

Hong Young-ki, Vice President of the Korea Indie Game Association, said, “The association has been active in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas for many years and wanted to contribute to the development of the local economy,” and “We will do our best to use the association’s accumulated know-how to lay the foundation for Gyeongnam’s indie game developers to grow into game companies representing the region.”

Currently, there are about 12 indie game companies operating in the Gyeongnam region. It is expected that the opening of this branch will create an environment in which developers in the region can interact more actively and grow.
