Gachon University’s Department of Game and Media was selected as the Best University in the Media Field by the 2024 Industry Perspective University Evaluation

    By Editorial Team2024년 12월 16일Updated:2025년 02월 28일3 Mins Read

Gachon University (President Gil-yea Lee) Department of Game and Film was selected as the best department in the media field in the 2024 industry-oriented university evaluation.

This is evaluated as an achievement of the department’s close cooperation with industry to operate a customized curriculum based on industrial demand and continuously pursue practical education innovation.

The industry-oriented university evaluation is an evaluation project led by the Ministry of Education that evaluates how faithfully the university curriculum reflects the needs of the industry. This evaluation, introduced in 2008, was implemented to strengthen communication between industry and academia and foster field-suitable talent. This year, five fields, 20 universities, and 32 departments participated, and Gachon University’s Game and Media Department was selected as first place in the media field, receiving recognition for its excellence.

Curriculum based on industry demand and strengthening practical capabilities

Gachon University’s Department of Game and Media allows students to quickly enter the industrial field through employment contracts with companies from admission, taking advantage of its early employment contract department characteristic.

To this end, the department has developed a systematic curriculum covering the game development process, including game planning, art, and programming. It is helping students develop practical capabilities that can be immediately applied in the field.

In particular, we have strengthened the game development curriculum by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology. We are contributing to improving the competitiveness of the Korean game industry by presenting a new education model for fostering creative and technology-oriented talent.

Results of integrated education and industry-academia cooperation

Gachon University’s Department of Game and Media has strived to appropriately integrate the convergence of game and video content into its curriculum, fostering talents with technical skills and creativity.

In addition, in cooperation with industry, we teach students the skills required in the industrial field and provide them with opportunities to gain practical experience through joint projects with companies. These efforts are analyzed as the main factors in selecting the best department in this evaluation.

Professor Kim Jeong-yoon, the head of the department, said, “This selection as the best department is the result of the cooperation and effort of all members of the department,” and added, “We will continue to communicate with the industry, improve the curriculum, and focus on fostering talents with creative problem-solving skills and design capabilities.”

Nurturing future-oriented talent and responding to the global game industry

The Department of Game and Media at Gachon University focuses on nurturing talents with technical expertise and future-oriented thinking in line with the AI era. To this end, the department has introduced various models of industry-academic cooperation and educational methods to foster talents with creative thinking and convergent problem-solving skills.

In addition, we are continuously developing practical educational programs that meet industry demands and support students in becoming competitive in the global game industry. This approach contributes to nurturing the next generation of game industry leaders.

We plan to strengthen cooperation with the industry further in the future.

Based on the results of this evaluation, the Department of Game and Media at Gachon University plans to strengthen cooperation with the industry further. The department will continue to improve its curriculum and spare no support to help students grow into talents with the expertise and creativity needed in the global game market.

This industry-oriented university evaluation showed that Gachon University’s Department of Game and Media plays a leading role in educational innovation and industry-academia cooperation.
