Smilegate announced on the 23rd (Tuesday) that it signed a business agreement (MOU) with Metacraft (CEO Yoo Jeong-seok) to support excellent indie games and create a creative ecosystem where secondary creative content is produced.
Metacraft is a digital content company operating the novel web platform ‘Novelpia’. With a differentiated author preference system, it has over 35,000 exclusive web novel IPs and over 30,000 active authors, and ‘Novelpia’ has surpassed 2.6 million cumulative members and 200,000 paid subscribers in just three years since its launch. In addition to web novels, we continuously expand linked businesses utilizing original IPs, such as webtoons, shorts-type webcomics, and games.
Through this MOU, Smilegate and MetaCraft will utilize the capabilities and resources of both companies to the fullest to create a creative ecosystem in which excellent indie game incubation and secondary creative content can be produced based on the smooth supply and demand of source IP. We promised to cooperate to achieve this.
According to this MOU, Metacraft will actively provide various content IPs within Novelpia to be a source of new creations, such as games. Smilegate also states that it will review the IP and make efforts to create actual profits through game content.
Metacraft CEO Yoo Jeong-Seok said, “Through this agreement, we expect to produce a variety of OSMU content based on the Novelpia IP,” and added, “We will create synergy effects and showcase more high-quality content.”
Smilegate Director Yeo Seung-hwan said, “We expect that the meeting between Metacraft, which has many unique IPs, and Smilegate, which is serious about developing the indie game ecosystem, will positively affect the indie game industry. “We hope to see a lot of interest and support for the creative ecosystem and interesting creations that both companies will create through this MOU.”
