- New title from UK’s Close Cat Games to release first on consoles on October 29
- Steam version schedule pushed back due to platform approval delays… “Aiming for year-end release”
- Supports local and online battles for up to 4 players… Gardening showdowns featuring potato turrets and weed bombs
UK-based indie game developer Cloth Cat Games and publisher Curveball Games officially released the new cooperative party game ‘Planted!’ on October 29 for PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
However, the PC (Steam) version, which was originally scheduled for a simultaneous release on the same day, has been postponed due to delays in the platform approval process. While a specific new release date for the Steam version has not yet been announced, the developer stated that they are working towards a release within this year.
“Planted!”, which was first unveiled last April, is a cooperative party game supporting up to four players where players cultivate various crops to earn points and engage in fierce battles by throwing harvested crops at opponents. At the time of its initial reveal, it was only mentioned that both PC and console versions would be released within 2026, but with this launch announcement, specific service schedules for each platform have been finally confirmed.
Unconventional power-up action utilizing ‘Potato Turrets and Weed Bombs’
The game proceeds by carefully planting and growing crops in a garden, then throwing them at a goalpost or an opposing player to earn points.
The stages where chaotic battles unfold are not limited to ordinary peaceful vegetable gardens; there are eight arenas featuring diverse environments, including mountainous zones, dark caves, high-rise buildings under construction, and active volcanoes that could erupt at any moment. Since each location has unique terrain variables and obstacles, differentiated strategies are required to cultivate and throw crops tailored to the environment.
A variety of colorful power-up items that add excitement to the match also catch the eye. These include the ‘Potato Turret’ that automatically keeps enemies in check, the ‘Weed Bomb’ capable of widespread sabotage, and the ‘Green Character’ that moves like a avatar to assist with tasks.
The key to victory lies in flexibly switching tactics to match the ever-changing battlefield, such as growing crops at lightning speed to quickly rack up points or using exclusive items to restrict the opponent’s movements.
‘Single Campaign’ featuring cross-play supported multiplayer and boss battles
‘Planted!’ supports local and online multiplayer for up to four players, and also offers cross-play functionality that breaks down the boundaries between platforms. Another feature is the inclusion of a ‘Single Player Campaign Mode’ that allows for an immersive experience even when playing alone.
Through the campaign, players will explore various locations, take on gardening challenges, and complete diverse missions, including thrilling boss battles. The developers explained that the controls and skills honed in single-player mode can be effectively utilized in actual multiplayer matches.
Ben Cawthorne, Creative Producer at Clos Cat Games, shared his thoughts on the launch, stating , “Initially, it was just a light prototype to test out some quirky ideas, but as development continued, it evolved into a proper game that the entire team poured their hearts into,” and added, “I hope many users will enjoy it with their friends while trying out various creative tactics.”
Digital versions for PS5 and Xbox to launch first… Switch scheduled for 2027.
Currently, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions have been released first as digital downloads and are available immediately. The PS5 physical edition for collectors and the PC digital version, which has been delayed, are under development with a target release date of late 2026.
In addition, for the Nintendo Switch platform, the plan is to sequentially release the digital version starting in early 2027, followed by the package version next year.
Cloth Cat Games, the developer of ‘Planted!’, is an independent game and animation studio based in South Wales, UK. At the time of the game’s initial reveal, they expressed extraordinary ambition and anticipation for the title, stating that this new work, ‘Planted!’, marks their first attempt at developing their own original IP .
Although the delay in platform approval left PC users disappointed, ‘Planted!’ plans to expand its reach to party game fans worldwide through a long-term roadmap, with a Steam release scheduled for later this year and future releases on Nintendo Switch and in physical form.
Clos Cat Games has embarked on the bold challenge of developing its first original IP, leveraging its know-how as an animation studio. All eyes are on ‘Planted!’, filled with their quirky and lively imagination, to see what kind of success it will achieve in the global indie game market.
