- Team17 & Wonderscope Games’ new title releases on PC and Nintendo Switch on October 29
- Casual sandbox continuing the ‘Hoko Life’ universe… Beach-themed DLC also revealed
Global indie game publisher Team17 and developer Wonderscope Games officially released the new healing sandbox game ‘Hokko Spaces’ on PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch platforms on October 29.
The game is a new spin-off based on the world of ‘Hokko Life,’ a community life simulation game loved for its charming graphics and healing elements. Unlike the previous games where you managed the entire town, this title is characterized by its emphasis on sandbox-style fun, where users can freely decorate and complete a charming diorama space according to their own tastes.
The launch price for ‘Hoko Spaces’ has been set at $7.99 (approximately £7.99 / €7.99). More detailed game information is available on Steam and the Nintendo eShop.
‘Stress-free’ diorama sandbox for animal residents
‘Hoko Spaces’ is characterized by its focus solely on creating dioramas that beautifully decorate a single small scene, rather than complex village management or economic management elements. The developers describe the game as a “calm and casual sandbox game where you can enjoy cozy dioramas and a comfortable atmosphere without rules or stress.”
Players can freely shape the terrain using blocks from five different themes, including stone, gravel, grass, and sand, and then fill their own space with over 300 colorful decorative items. It offers the fun of creating a peaceful countryside landscape or a cozy garden by arranging charming props such as campfires, benches, picnic baskets, flowerpots, flowers, and fences.
A total of 26 types of animal villagers will appear to breathe life into the space. Villagers are unlocked sequentially as light, easy goals are achieved, such as “removing 20 weeds.” Once joined, these villagers will freely roam the diorama space carefully crafted by the player, tend to the garden, or rest, adding a warm vibrancy to the landscape.

Seasons and weather changes… Capture ‘your own screenshots’ with sentimental photo mode
It also fully supports features for changing the season, weather, and time of day that determine the mood of the space.
Based on the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter, visual diversity has been expanded by providing two detailed weather options for each season. According to the developer, it is possible to create detailed visuals ranging from the sentimental scenery of cherry blossoms fluttering on a spring evening to the texture of the first frost on a cold winter morning.
The diorama space completed by the player can be beautifully captured through the in-game ‘Photo Mode’. It is expected to provide great satisfaction to screenshot users who enjoy sharing on social media, as it allows for detailed adjustments to composition and focus (out-of-focus), as well as a variety of camera filters.

DLC featuring Ray’s beach items and soundtrack released simultaneously
Along with the game’s release, the first additional content (DLC), ‘Lei’s Beachside Pack,’ was unveiled. This DLC includes a new beach-loving animal resident named ‘Lei,’ as well as themed items that can create a cool beach atmosphere, such as tubes, lifeguard chairs, and boomboxes.
The ‘Ray’s Beachside Pack’ is available for separate purchase at $1.99, while the ‘Hoco Spaces: Sunshine Edition,’ which bundles the base game and DLC, is sold for $8.99. Additionally, a digital soundtrack DLC capturing the game’s cozy atmosphere is listed separately for $2.99.
Meanwhile, according to the Steam store page, a special 10% discount promotion is running until November 12 to celebrate the launch.

A new small-scale, focused title from developer Wonderscope Games following the success of its predecessor, ‘Hoko Life’
The developer, Wonderscope Games, is a small, London-based studio founded by indie developer Robert Tatnell.
The previous title, ‘Hoko Life’, was first introduced on Steam Early Access in June 2021, and then became known to global users after its official release on major console platforms including PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox in September 2022.
The new title ‘Hoco Spaces’ was first unveiled at the indie game showcase ‘Wholesome Direct’ held on June 6, and has been receiving user feedback through a Steam playtest in parallel.
Wonderscope Games CEO Tatnell explained the rationale behind the development of this new spin-off title, stating, “Following the success of the previous game, ‘Hoko Life,’ I wanted to create a dense, small-scale game that removes unnecessary elements and allows for deeper focus on specific fun.”

Overseas media gives favorable reviews, saying “the design process is enjoyable”… Korean language support enhances accessibility
Currently, there are three Steam user reviews for ‘Hoco Spaces’, and an overall rating is not yet displayed. LadiesGamers, an overseas gaming media outlet, left a positive review stating, “The entire process of designing your own space to unlock the animal villagers you want was very pleasant and enjoyable.”
Language convenience is also noteworthy. The Steam version supports interfaces in a total of 10 languages, including official Korean, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese. However, the exact support for Korean and the detailed range of languages for the Nintendo Switch version have not yet been officially confirmed.

‘Hoko Spaces’ positions itself as a ‘small-scale creative game’ that can be comfortably and lightly taken out and enjoyed from under the covers on long winter nights. It is characterized by a structure that boldly removes complex goals or stress-inducing competitive elements and focuses on the inherent fun of decorating .
Accordingly, it is expected to become an attractive option that can be enjoyed without pressure this winter, not only for existing users who loved the charming worldview of the previous work, ‘Hoko Life,’ but also for fans of the cozy genre seeking a comfortable atmosphere.
