- An action-farming roguelite by Portuguese indie developer Digitality Games
- Combining farm management and vampire combat… Expanding its reach from PC to PS5 and Xbox
JanduSoft, a publisher based in Barcelona, Spain, announced that it will release the action farming roguelite ‘Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire’ on PlayStation 5 and Xbox on September 30.
Developed by Portuguese developer Digitality Games, ‘Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire’ is set in Transylvania and tells the story of Voltaire, Dracula’s youngest son, who chooses a vegetarian diet instead of blood. It features a unique, hand-drawn art style and ‘bizarre yet cute’ character designs.
This console version is a port based on the PC version. The PC version was officially released on October 26, 2023, following Steam Early Access, and was published by indie.io. This console version is being published separately by Yandusoft.
Farming by day, vampire battles by night
The gameplay of ‘Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire’ changes depending on the day and night.
During the day, you explore every corner of Transylvania while planting magical seeds to cultivate crops and expanding your farm. The harvested crops are also used to support Voltaire’s growth and enhance his abilities.
Every night, Dracula’s henchmen storm the farm. It is a sabotage plot by the father, Dracula, to undermine the philosophy of his son, Voltaire, who has shunned meat and declared himself a vegetarian.
The user must protect Voltaire’s precious crops from attacks by ghost-like minions, and in the process, experience both the strange family conflicts and the fun of a defense game.
Players must utilize Voltaire’s various vampire abilities to defeat swarming enemies and protect the farm. Battles unfold not only against regular enemies but also against powerful bosses.
Vampires evolving into vegetarians, roguelike growth system
The growth system also features a unique setup. Voltaire gains new abilities through a plant-based diet rather than blood and gradually grows into a powerful vampire.
The game adopts a roguelike structure where players prepare for the next challenge based on the knowledge and skills acquired in each playthrough. It also intricately weaves together the inherent fun of simulation, such as exploring Transylvania’s colorful biome and expanding your farm plot.
The PC version also supports multiplayer, including cooperative play and split-screen. However, further verification is required regarding support for these features in the console versions.
Dual structure of Portuguese developer and publisher
‘Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire’ was developed by the Portuguese developer Digitality Games, and the publishing structure is divided by platform. Indie.io handled the publishing for the PC version, while Yandusoft is publishing the PlayStation 5 and Xbox versions.
The PC version is rated ‘Mostly Positive’ on Steam. With a positive rating in the high 70% range out of approximately 100 reviews, it continues to generate interest in the game’s unique concept and gameplay that combines farm management and combat.
‘Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire’ will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox on September 30. Attention is focused on whether the unique gameplay, which combines farming, exploration, and vampire combat first introduced on PC, can attract a new player base on consoles as well.
