Global game publisher Devolver Digital announced that its real-time strategy stealth adventure game ‘Sumerian Six’ will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on March 6th.
Published by Crunching Koalas and developed by tactical game developer Artificer, the game was first released on the PC Steam platform in September 2024, and this console release aims to reach a wider audience.
The ambitious work of Artificer, a master of tactical games
Artificer is a small, 14-person development studio headquartered in Warsaw, Poland, founded in 2019. The team consists of veterans with experience developing tactical games such as “Hard West” and “Phantom Doctrine,” and is currently part of the Devolver Digital Group.
The studio has released two games, ‘Showgunners’ and ‘Sumerian Six’, the latter of which is considered to be a successor to the legacy of Mimimi Games, the tactical gaming powerhouse that closed in 2023. Mimimi Games is known for reviving the real-time tactical stealth genre with titles like ‘Shadow Tactics’, ‘Desperados III’, and ‘Shadow Gambit’.
A secret operation by a team of scientists in an alternate history
Sumerian Six is set in an alternate history world that reimagines World War II. Players command Enigma Squad, a team of six scientists with unique abilities, as they battle against Nazi forces armed with supernatural powers.
The game consists of ten chapters, each featuring tense stealth missions set in various locations inspired by actual historical locations. Players will covertly infiltrate Nazi fortresses, neutralize guards, and face increasingly powerful enemies.
Unique characters and tactical combinations are key.
The core of the game lies in strategically combining each character’s unique abilities. From the dangerous chemical concoctions of the brilliant chemist Rosa Reznik to the overwhelming combat prowess of the mutant “werebear” Voytek Galica, situational skill utilization determines victory or defeat.
By creatively combining the abilities of your teammates, your tactical options expand, allowing you to develop your own unique strategy. As the game progresses, the protagonist becomes increasingly powerful, but enemies with heavily armed units, mutants, and supernatural powers also become more threatening.
A unique worldview combining Nazism and the occult
Set in a bizarre world where Nazis and the occult intertwine, gamers uncover enemy conspiracies. The story unfolds as they discover occult scientific weapons and ancient Sumerian artifacts linked to Kammler’s plans. Players must demonstrate strategic judgment and sophisticated maneuvering skills to prevent a grim future should the Nazis win.
Overwhelming user acclaim: “The successor to Mimi.”
Since its PC release, Sumerian Six has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from gamers worldwide. On Steam, it received 94% positive reviews out of 864 reviews, and earned a Metacritic critic score of 81 and a user score of 8.2. On review aggregation site Opencritic, it received a “Strong” rating with an 80.
Gamers in particular praised the game, saying, “Artificer has inherited the torch from Mimimi Games,” “It perfectly fills the void in the tactical stealth genre,” and “It is the spiritual successor to the Commandos series.” Some critics said, “It doesn’t quite reach the level of Mimimi Games, but it’s one of the best stealth games of 2024,” expressing anticipation for future sequels.
The game has been particularly praised for its fast quick-save/load system, sophisticated level design, and creative ability combination system, with the average playtime reportedly being around 15 hours based on the main story.
Sumerian Six will be released on March 6, 2026, local time, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and will fully support Korean. The PC version is currently available on Steam.
