Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Hyeong-jun) and Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency (President Kim Tae-yeol) will hold a briefing session on the “2024 Busan Game Industry Development Support Project” for game companies and prospective entrepreneurs in the Busan area on Thursday, March 14 at 3 p.m. It was announced that it will be held in a complex space on the 5th floor of the Busan Cultural Content Complex.
Through this briefing session, the Promotion Agency will announce details of the Busan game industry development support project in 2024, including ▲ discovery and settlement support for local game developers ▲ , incubation ▲ support for game content production ▲ , support for commercialization entering the global market ▲ , and expansion of financial support through funds.
Busan Global Game Center, which received an ‘Excellent’ rating due to last year’s business evaluation, organized more diverse support projects this year using national treasury incentives. Through this, we plan to build an industrial ecosystem where game startups can efficiently establish businesses and lead to innovation and growth of local small and medium-sized indie game companies.
In particular, this year, a new ‘Game Developer Settlement Support’ project was established to support young developers’ housing rental deposit interest or monthly rent. Through this, we plan to strengthen the foundation of the local game industry by creating conditions for the influx and settlement of excellent development personnel.
In addition, commercialization support projects previously operated separately, such as marketing, localization, consulting, and game quality improvement, will be integrated into one support project. This will reduce unnecessary administrative hassles for companies that occur every time a support project is announced and increase efficiency in terms of operating the support project.
In addition, we plan to introduce more diverse game industry promotion plans through a briefing session next week, such as game production support, participation in global game exhibitions, game content fund operation, and human resource recruitment and training support in connection with the Busan Content Academy.
Since the opening of the Busan Global Game Center in 2015, the size of the game industry in Busan has continued to grow. Compared to before the opening of the center, the number of businesses has more than doubled (68 companies → 146 companies), and the number of employees has increased by about 1.7 times (917 people → 1,578 people), creating a new wind in reorganizing the local industrial structure.
‘Cplay (Representative Content: Cat Jump)’, a mobile game company that grew through the Busan Global Game Center, has accumulated more than 20 million downloads of its games since last year, and Two Hands Interactive (an augmented reality-based exercise platform company) In the case of (Representative Content: DIDIM), many excellent cases are coming out through the center, including exporting to the domestic market and 15 overseas countries last year, recording sales in the billions of won.
Kim Tae-yeol, director of the Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency, said, “The Busan Global Game Center, which has led to numerous success stories of developers over a long period of time, will grow into a key institution that can solve Busan’s future food concerns.” He added, “With the center as the leader, Busan is a digitally attractive city. “We will work with local developers to make this a reality.”
Meanwhile, the Busan Global Game Center is operated by the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency with the support of Busan Metropolitan City, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Korea Creative Content Agency to foster the region-based game industry. It provides various services such as startup incubation, production/marketing, and support for entering overseas markets. Through support projects, we are contributing to strengthening the competitiveness of Busan game companies.
