Smilegate completes the ‘1st Busan College Student Game Developer Camp.’

    By 인디게임닷컴 편집부2024년 01월 23일Updated:2024년 01월 29일2 Mins Read

    ■ Sharing insights on employment and entrepreneurship in the game industry with students from four universities in the Busan region
    ■ Early discovery and training of game developers… Expanding the base of game development culture in Busan

Orange Planet (from now on referred to as ‘Orange Planet’, Center Director Sang-bong Seo), a start-up foundation of Smilegate Group (CVO Hyuk-bin Kwon), completed the ‘1st Busan College Student Game Developer Camp’ held at the Centum Campus of Dongseo University in Busan on the 19th. The day was revealed.

Orange Planet held this developer camp to support the employment of college students in Busan who dream of becoming game developers and to strengthen their start-up capabilities. Today, about 80 students from the game, content, and animation departments of four universities, including Dongseo University, Dongmyeong University, Dongeui University, and Youngsan University, participated. The main programs included lectures and consultations by game industry professionals and indie game exhibitions.

Milestone Games CEO Kim Hee-jun and Seaplay CEO Kim Gyeong-won lectured on the success story and know-how of developing a game and starting a business in the Busan area. Officials from Smilegate’s talent recruitment team and Stove’s creative ecosystem support team also took the podium. They shared the type of talent the game industry wants and how to register a demo version on Smilegate’s game platform, Stove.

The indie game exhibition booth, which displayed games developed by students who participated in the camp, also received much attention. Students demonstrated games with field mentors, exchanged feedback, and shared know-how for game development. At the consultation booth, individual consultations for employment and starting a business in the game industry were also conducted in each development field, such as programming, art, and planning.

Changsu Kim (Youngsan University’s Game VR Department), who participated in the developer camp, said, “The lectures and counseling programs from people in the field were beneficial,” and added, “I hope that more developer camps will be held in the future where students from other schools can participate.” He expressed his feelings about participating in the camp.

Orange Planet Center Director Seo Sang-bong said, “This developer camp was planned to discover and foster excellent game developers at an early stage in collaboration with universities in the Busan region.” He added, “We will hold the ‘2nd Busan Game Developer Conference’ in March. “We plan to hold events regularly to expand the base of game development culture in the Busan region.”
