An exemplary office worker by day, a hacker infiltrating corporate networks by night. The Steam demo for ‘REMAIN AT YOUR DESK,’ a cyberpunk incremental clicker by New York-based solo developer Jared D. from Crunch Moonkiss Studios, was released on May 19.
Players become employees of the massive corporation RAYND CORPORATION and experience a double life: performing duties under surveillance while stealing data through illegal hacking after work. The game is currently under development with a target release on PC Steam in the second half of 2026.
The game surpassed 1,000 wishlist items within the first month of its release on Steam and is attracting attention from overseas media and community channels, including Korea’s IndieGame.com , Taiwan’s GNN, Japan’s Gamebiz, and DayOne Podcast.
Corporate employee by day, hacker by night… The two-faced terminal cyberpunk
REMAIN AT YOUR DESK is a minimalist cyberpunk incremental game centered around a text-based terminal UI.
The game is divided into completely different atmospheres and systems depending on whether it is day or night. During the day, cold and standardized interfaces centered on corporate tasks such as submitting reports, synchronizing databases, and evaluating performance appear. On the other hand, when night falls, the screen changes into a dark hacking terminal where players must select an infiltration path, bypass firewalls, and steal data.
The UI was designed to maintain the unique terminal atmosphere across various language environments, including Chinese and Japanese. In addition, a soundtrack composed by developer Jared D., an award-winning film composer, was added to audibly bring to life the stark contrast between the monotonous daily office life and the tension-filled hacking sessions.
Credit and Intel, Suspicion and Disguise… A Dual Economy for Survival
The core of the game lies in a ‘dual economic system’ and ‘disguise management.’ Credits earned through daytime tasks are the primary resource used for automation, upgrades, and time reductions. In contrast, Intel, obtainable only through nighttime hacking, is a rarer and riskier resource that is utilized to enhance hacking capabilities through a separate upgrade tree.
When a rank is raised through a promotion, the Black Market opens, and players can use Intel to purchase permanent benefits that persist even after a reset.
Another key element is the Persona system. Players can perform hacking by posing as different identities, such as a janitor, IT manager, or consultant. Each persona possesses unique abilities, but using the same identity for too long increases the risk of one’s identity being exposed.
If suspicion levels rise, you must write fake reports, delete logs, or even pay witnesses to erase their memories. A single failed audit can cause a player to fall from a high rank to the status of an intern.
Traces left by repeated hacking… and the mysterious ‘Conduit’
The game goes beyond simple resource gathering and utilizes the accumulation of information itself as a long-term growth factor.
Repeatedly hacking the same target accumulates a dossier regarding the target. Email servers reveal internal organizational relationships, security networks uncover blind spots, and executive data reveals the true operating principles of corporate systems. This information becomes permanent leverage that remains even after a reset.
In addition, a mysterious entity called the ‘Conduit,’ which drives the game’s central narrative, makes its appearance. According to the developers, there is something within the network that exists before the player and will eventually begin to speak to them. The messages sent by this entity serve as key clues to the story hidden behind the Incremental Loop.
Debut work by a New York solo developer… 1,000 items on the wishlist in the first month
Crunch Moonkiss Studios is a studio run by New York-based solo developer and award-winning film composer Jared D., and ‘REMAIN AT YOUR DESK’ is his first commercial release.
Despite being a solo development project, the title surpassed 1,000 wishlist entries in its first month of release and was featured in game media and communities across various countries. The press kit was also prepared in over 10 languages, including English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, German, French, Portuguese, and Russian, revealing a strategy aimed at the global market from the early stages.
The currently available demo is approximately 35 to 50 minutes long. Players can progress through the third promotion stage and experience firsthand the Persona system, suspicion management, and the contrasting day and night game structure. New language support has also been added through a recent update, and save data and Prestige progress are preserved even when changing languages.
REMAIN AT YOUR DESK is garnering attention as a work that goes beyond a simple click-based growth game to incorporate double life, disguise, surveillance, and information power within an incremental structure in a corporate dystopia.
A life oscillating between office workers conforming to surveillance systems and hackers shaking up corporate networks, and the message of ‘Conduit,’ an entity that discovered the player first somewhere within the network. With the official release scheduled for the second half of 2026, the attention of global indie game fans is focused on how ‘REMAIN AT YOUR DESK,’ the debut work of a New York-based solo developer, will complete the story of this unsettling corporate dystopia.
