BrokenLore: DON’T LIE — Japanese Psychological Horror Demo Debuts

    By Editorial Team2026년 05월 08일2 Mins Read

Serafini Productions, a Tokyo-based horror specialist, and British publisher Wired Productions have officially released the first public demo for BrokenLore: DON’T LIE on May 7, 2026. Debuting ahead of the June Steam Next Fest, this 1in-person psychological horror title marks the first time players can step into the distorted reality of the BrokenLore universe since its initial reveal in late 2025.

    The Descent into Junko’s Mind

The narrative centers on Junko, a young woman struggling with a deteriorating mental state born from a broken family environment. Abandoned by her mother and emotionally detached from her father, Junko’s repeated experiences with social rejection have led her into a state of total isolation.

    • Blurred Reality: As Junko’s condition worsens, the boundaries between the real world and her hallucinations begin to dissolve.
    • The Apartment Setting: Players experience the story from Junko’s perspective within a small, secluded apartment, navigating a life defined by phone calls, drug dependency, and mounting anxiety.
    • A Web of Secrets: The truth behind Junko’s past is gradually unveiled through her memories and her interactions with figures she met at a previous rehabilitation center.

    Surreal Visuals and Auditory Dread

The game utilizes motion capture to bring Junko’s emotional trauma to life, blending realistic environments with surreal, nightmarish distortions. The developers aim to maximize tension by forcing players to experience every scene through Junko’s inherently vulnerable perspective.

    • Transformative Spaces: Familiar apartment surroundings morph into grotesque, threatening shapes, turning the home into an unstable “limbo” reminiscent of the psychological environmental shifts seen in titles like Silent Hill.
    • Soundscapes of Anxiety: The audio design is a critical tool, layering everyday noises with distorted voices from phone calls and oppressive silences to draw players deeper into Junko’s psyche.

    The Expanding BrokenLore Universe

BrokenLore: DON’T LIE is a spin-off of the previous title DON’T WATCH. It serves as a new chapter in a growing horror anthology universe that includes titles such as:

    • LOW (February 2025)
    • DON’T WATCH (April 2025)
    • UNFOLLOW (January 2026)

Led by Sebastiano Serafini, the Tokyo studio is known for integrating cinematic storytelling and motion capture with dynamic gameplay.
